Just a quick question to all...
I'm looking at getting a newer used truck. 1500, 2wd, something with at least a v8 and a little kick in the pants. Extended cab. Really liking the newer Dodge quad cab hemis.
Here's the thing... I can afford the truck no problem and can easily get a good loan, but insurance prices being on my own are ridiculously expensive! On my own policy (2 tickets in past 4 years) I'm looking at over $2200 per 6 months! $4500 per year!
Am I looking in all the wrong places? I could afford the truck and insurance, but it's the principle that kills me when my parents are paying $500 per 6 months for their v8 2004 Ext. Cab Silverado.
What are you younger (24 and younger) guys doing to find cheaper insurance?? Who are you insured through? And if you don't mind me asking, what year truck do you have and what is your monthly payment?
Thanks!

I still go through my dad's policy. Most places I looked for my own wanted 300 a month for an 88 chevy. On my dads plan, it's only $120.

All state. For my 04 ford ranger (full coverage) and my 89 buick Century (LPD) I pay $1400 a year. Funny thing is my buick is only $200 a year:D

GEICO! I cant yell this enough to everyone!!! GEICO GEICO GEICO, seriously call them and try not to crap your pants when they tell you how low it is. I'm 23 (was 22 when I got the insurance a couple months ago) Never had my own insurance, always under my dads name. I went and bought an 06 F250 superduty. Truck was over $30K. I've had one ticket that got reduced and no accidents which helped. I'm paying $760ish a year, and that includes free towing and rental reimbursement. That is for full coverage! I couldn't find another insurance company to come close.
My buddy made the switch from his provider to geico after they raised the insurance cost on his motorcycle. He saved close to $1000 a year between his truck and his motorcycle over his previous insurance company. He has an 04 F-150 and an 05 or 06 Buell xb12
I have another buddy with a brand spanking new GTI, he has 3 or 4 speeding tickets and he pays nearly the same amount I do, around $780 a year.

Also when I went to the dealership, because I had already done the free quote online, it tooke me less than 10 minutes to get my new truck insured, over the phone. I drove my truck off the lot that day, the longest part was waiting for them to clean it...

Well, lets see here:
On my policy:
2005 Nissan Titan CC 4x4
1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera V6
Before age 25:
$2500/ year or
$625/ quarter or
$210/ month
After age 25:
$1200/ year or
$300/ quarter or
$100/ month
I think there might have been an additional decrease in the amount due to moving to a different area. If memory serves:
Originally: $2500
After move: $1700
After age 25: $1200

Same thing for me with both GEICO and Progressive.
When I tried getting insurance for my 2003 Cannondale Speed, progressive wanted $850 a year!!!! I got it through my current agent for $300.

Drving record and location play a huge role in how much your car costs to insure. Mine is only a little over $60 a month.
ATV insurance is different, that is strictly location. Call and get a quote for a rural area some small town some where. Full coverage for an ATV for me at my hometown which included fire, theft, acts of god EVERYTHING was only around $150 a year, haven't checked with geico yet.

Just did the online quote with geico for an 05' Ram 1500. State minimums with $500 collision and comprehensive.
$475.43 a month! I don't understand this... I only have two tickets in the last 6 years. Both minor. No accidents, no other incidents... What gives?
