Careful!!

Over the summer, I spent 70 some bucks on a battery and the problem turned out to be a bad rectifier. If your lights go dim while riding, chances are, its a 35 dollar rectifiier. :D

yeah if you arnt sure that you let it drain down get your stator and regulator checked.

You should try a GSXR 750 battery.

that would be part # YTX-12BS

you have to lengthen your stock battery hold down by 24 mm and it will bolt up

I take it that is the battery that helps with cranking amperage. I have been looking for that number all over h$ll and back. I need a little more juice and none of my local dealers knew what the heck I was talking about. Thanks boys........Mo:p

Kenny do you think that Battery would fit in a Aftermarket Airbox? I would like to get the CFM one that has the lid and you can use the snorkel with it.

Pappy
11-01-2002, 04:54 PM
as far as i know......NO aftermarket airbox will allow the larger battery to be installed. rico tried and could barely get his seat and fenders on. i do recomend the larger battery ....i just wish someone would make a new bracket and sell it. :p

I thought 465Stroker (Rick Cecco) said the 750 was the same size as stock and he bolted one right up on his. Maybe I am thinking wrong. I thought the 1200 or whatever was bigger and the mount had to be modified. I don`t know for sure. I would like to get the 750 battery if it would bolt right up and also some battery cables which you make right?

Pappy
11-01-2002, 05:12 PM
there is no battery that has more cca's that will bolt right in. atleast a conventional type. and i have over 2200 bike batteries in stock to pick from:p

11-01-2002, 05:16 PM
We need to get 465Stroker to get some pictures of his and tell us what and how he did it. I am getting ready to start Racing XC next season and I know the Battery and Cables would help.

well....on a stock compression engine you will only notice a small improvement. the biggest thing is too replace the battery every year for peak performance. i constantly see batteries in quads and street bikes that are only at 70% capacity within 12 months. my figuring is that bikes in general are not ridin all year long ...same with some quads and lawn tractors. the months of sitting just kill these little batteries.

Dave400ex
11-01-2002, 05:22 PM
Is there an Aftermarket replacement battery that is better then the stock one or should I just get a new stock battey?

Pappy
11-01-2002, 05:34 PM
the stock battery is made by YUASA. they make the best bike/quad batteries....period. they supply us with all our bike batteries.

there are other manufactures.....but they really dont come close to the quality of YUASA.

Ok thanks.

Actually the part number I used was a Yuasa YT12A-BS from a 2000 Suzuki GSXR-750. The battery has the same exact demensions as the Stocker 150mm x 87mm x 105mm and provides 175 cca or 55cca more the the stock unit. I bought mine from a Batteries Warehouse for $63.00.
No modifications needed - it is the exact size as the stocker!
400EX127 - Our Yuasa Part numbers are not the same....

How much would having two stock batteries help? Maybe have one in the stock battery box and another in an aftermarket air box. I know that would be a lot of extra weight, but would it help enough to be worth the trade off in GNCCs and hare scrambles?

Pappy

465....that # isnt a sealed battery correct? i didnt check non sealed units......non sealed really wouldnt concern me.....unless i stood my quad on the grab bar for any lenght of time:p

i just checked...i can get them....$69.95 they come with the acid pack so they are ups shipable. i will order 5 of them and try'em out:D anyone need a battery?

i miss qouted the price...lol they are a costly lil bugger:D

you should send this to FAQ

Dave400ex

Kenny what is the difference between Sealed and Non Sealed Batterys? Are the Non Sealed the ones you can Refill? Also I do put mine on the Grab Bar a lot for cleaning so would that Battery not work? I don't want to spend all that money on a Battery that isn't what I want.

Pappy
11-04-2002, 05:05 PM
warriorman.....i will check it out at work tomarrow. i called in the part # and got pricing only and told my secretary to order some in. if the battery is a maintaince free sealed unit it can not leak. if its a conventional bike battery it will have caps and a vent that can allow acid to escape thru the vent tube if turned on its side. as too how much will leak? well it could be very little(as in a drop or two) or it could be more. when one comes in i will know much more.....heck i'll fill one and stand it on its side for ya...lol:p

465stroker has this battery and can tell us quick as too which type it is...

i will use this in my cdale if its sealed.....but i doubt i will if its not.

Dave400ex
11-04-2002, 06:23 PM
Ok thanks a bunch Kenny. I`m in no big hurry. I just don`t want the thing leaking when I clean it on the Grab Bar. I do like the idea of it starting quicker. It won`t hurt any of the electric things will it? David

Pappy
11-04-2002, 06:42 PM
no it wont hurt any thing....

465Stroker
11-05-2002, 03:59 AM
No worries - The battery is a maintenance free sealed unit. No twisty caps with vent hose. You just fill the battery and a long black recessed cap will cover the top of the holes. When you are done, it will look just like the stocker - very hard to tell any difference in looks.

Pappy
11-05-2002, 05:46 AM
thanks465.....i will have them here next week:D

Dave400ex

Thanks 465Stroker. This is something else I will add to the "Wants" list before I start racing. I think I will put the Motor Work off until next Winter and get the more important stuff.

Kenny how much does the Battery cost? Also do you still have the bigger Battery Cables? I bet with the Battery and Cable that thing would fire up quick. Will the Battery help with the hard Cold starts any?

Thanks Guys, David

Pappy

Well with my motor mods and the compression I am running. The orginal battery in my 400 petered out. I ordered the batter for the GSXR-750 today. It should be in a day or two. I made them double check the dimentions and it is suppose to be the same size as the 400ex battery just more cca. I did forget to ask if it is a sealed battery, I am assuming that it is.

11-13-2002, 11:25 AM
yes it should be sealed.....part # YT12a-bs i beleive and i now have them in stock

Dave400ex

anyone have an exact part number? i have heard some different ones so far. and this is a sealed battery with more CCA. I wanna know if it even makes a noticable difference.

All of those Questions are answered in above Posts.

I got my new battery hooked up last night. I just unhooked the old one and installed the new, no mod needed to install! :D
I can tell a difference when it rolls over, it sounds like it did when I was running the stock compression. To hear it roll over you would never guess that I was running 13:1!
I even got it good and warm last night and it still started great.

Dave400ex
11-15-2002, 12:24 PM
Do you think it will help with the cold starting?

I don't know what it would hurt. I guess I would try it if the jetting correction didn't help.

Dave400ex
11-15-2002, 04:02 PM
Well when I called and asked TC about jetting he said I shouldn't have to change for the cold weather it should start year round. When he told me to put the D7EA plug in it really helped. I started it this morning and it's about 35 degrees and it cranked over pretty quick for being cold and not being started in 2 weeks. I just wondered if it would help. Have to see...

11-18-2002, 10:16 AM
Is it noticeably better than stock?

oynot400
11-18-2002, 10:36 AM
With my high compression, it rolls it over like it did when it was stock. So I would say yes it made a difference.

Dave400ex
11-18-2002, 03:01 PM
How much was yours?

oynot400
11-18-2002, 03:27 PM
I paid $58 out the door, but I do get a good discount from my Honda dealer. :D

Dave400ex
11-18-2002, 04:44 PM
Well I will have to see what the Suzuki dealer wants for one, and if it is more then Kenny's I will just get one from him.
