Unadilla New York, site of round #10 of the Can Am GNCC series was held this past saturday with 263 entries on the line for the two hour event!

I drove all night and crashed at the gate for a restfull 2 hours of sleep:p I had tempted fate by drinking the coffee at the track when I covered the ATVA MX race so I was SOL as I set off towards the starting area. Pro row was being assembled for the days action, and although partly cloudy it looked like lot's of sunshine moving in.

Rick Cecco chats with fans and other racers as the morning riders assembled. Can Am had a big balloon flying high as they remain a dominate force at the series on and off the track.

The Womens class is really heating up after a string of win's to kick off the season, Traci Cecco looked to be GONE! With 7 straight wins, Cecco was handing out severe cases of "I finished second" syndrome to all challengers! That changed at the Snowshoe round as Cecco ran into mechanical issues and continued with a runner up spot at Mountain Ridge.

Enter Angel Atwell. Atwell has been playing second fiddle to Cecco for the better part of the season, taking a back seat ride as the Traci Cecco express seemed to be rolling away unstopable. At Mountain Ridge, Atwell finally stood on the podium, center stage as she secured her first win of the season. Hard work and training have her in prime condition to finally battle with Cecco at any event, and this race would be yet another chance to prove she was no joke.

Traci on the other hand has to look back and see where she can either fix any unforeseen issues or find a break to get herself back on top of this game. That is a pretty sad deal, when your finishing inside the top 3 and have to have someone like me say that:p Traci is a die hard and ferocious competitor and if there is a chink in her armor I am sure she is all over it! In my eye's, she is facing what her team mate Bill Ballance is facing in the Pro class, the simple fact that the competition level is at an all time high and there is no room for mistakes!

Stephanie Parton and crew relax as the 262 other riders get themselves situated on their respective rows. Parton is having a solid season, and with the exception of two races, she has finished all but 1 inside the top 3. I know she would prefer to be all 1st across the board, but as stated, the competition has stepped it up! Another intense racer for sure, and you will know when she wants you to get out of her way!:D

Shanna Bradshaw was chipper as the warm sun graced the area. I think Shanna did a rain dance because in a few minutes, it all changed:scary:

Lexie Coulter chats with friends prior to the start...and no, they do not exchange recipes and other girl type stuff, these are racers!!!! (OK...I admit to asking someone a recipe but I wont say who and i wont say they stated they couldn't cook:devil: )

Greg Condon made the switch from sport quads to the Utilities at Mountain Ridge, where he finished a highly respectable 8th overall and 3rd in 4x4 open. Greg said he wanted a change of pace and the UTE racing seemed to fit his rough an rugged stature. Personally I think he wanted closer to the ladies so running the UTE moved him up a few rows;)

I dove into the announcers tent and sought shelter as I had ditched my rain gear due to the sunshine....go figure:o

I do not know if he found anyone willing:devil:

With the downpour forcing me to safety(for my gear, im a man, i fear no rain but my cameras are panzies..lol) I had to shoot the start from a side angle:ermm:

Without a good look or angle for the number plates, keeping track of the differing classes is difficult, I apologize:p

The grass was wet, but the dirt they were chewing up seemed to be pretty dry underneath.

Pappy

Catching a different angle for the start wasn't all bad, I managed to get a few decent shots

Pappy
09-17-2007, 05:58 PM
I was sure hoping the rain would let up so I could get back to my car and grab rain gear. The riders were plenty wet and 2 hours of nasty isn't everything it's cracked up to be

The Womans novice class only had 4 entries, and I just know a few of you guys have girls or wives that ride...GET THEM OUT THERE!!!

As the last row cleared the first turn, the rain turned to a mist and by the time I hit the parking area the sun came out:p So off to the woods i went searching for the riders.

But first, I had to catch a shot of someone who lost their shoe in the muck...ewwwwwwww:blah:

Try as i might, I couldn't cut off Atwell as she went past but I was ready when Parton came by running in second

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:24 PM
Traci Cecco wasn't but a few quad lengths behind Parton as they disappeared in the tree's

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:27 PM
The rain had created a few muddy sections, but it looked like the track would run in and be great!

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:30 PM
The sun was most deffinatley out as it shined through the dense foliage

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:31 PM
The track was getting choppy in sections and rutted enough that some riders were having to really work to get up some of the hills

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:33 PM
Greg Condon was plowing ahead!

Pappy

Bottlenecks happen so quick and getting out of them fast can make your day

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:37 PM
Some machines were already showing signs of carnage nearing the mid point of the first lap!

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:39 PM
In the field and MX section, the track was still messy, with reports coming in that the MX section had some serious mud the riders had to dealw ith

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:43 PM
The Utilities were at home when it got rough

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:45 PM

Angel Atwell was still out front and riding as smooth as I have ever seen her. To say she was on a mission would be an understatement

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:52 PM
Cecco was coming but I could tell she was just slightly off Atwells pace

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:55 PM
Joey Margaria of the Sport class was ripping as usual and took home second for his efforts

Pappy
09-17-2007, 06:59 PM
The distance between Atwell, Cecco and Parton remained about the same as far as I could tell. I did not see a squirell with a stop watch so i have to geustimate:p

Traci Cecco was a few minutes behind Atwell to secure the number 2 spot in teh Womens class.

Pappy
09-17-2007, 07:25 PM
On the podium, Traci was as gracious as ever and took the final spot on the podium in stride. Knowing how competitive she is, first would have tasted better:p

Micheal Young, 30+ C Class racer was smiling so wide that I thought he would burst! Quite the accomplishment for him and he was exstatic about his great finish!!!

Pappy
09-17-2007, 07:29 PM
Young may have been wearing a Pete's Cycle jersey, but it was Dirt First's Andy lagzdins who was getting Youngs praises from the podium! Andy was a few feet away and took it in typical laid back Andy fashion. Good job was expressed with a simple gesture.

Atwell rolled on and deserved this win like no other. She has been pounding the locals and her determination is paying off. We all wish you more success!!

Great coverage of a great race!! I went to Unadilla to watch the races for the last 2 years and couldn't take not being part of the action any longer. This year I raced the 20+C class on my 1986 Honda 250r (Silver plastic and blue Nac's graphics). I got a BAD start as the quad that starts anytime I want it to decided to get a dose of stagefright and needed 2 kicks to come alive that rainy morning. After starting 2nd to last I was able to catch up to 21st in my class after the first lap and wanted so bad to get a top ten finish. I could feel my pace getting better each lap. Bottlenecks were found on every hillclimb and were hard to get around. The course was an amazing mix of tight woods, muddy sections, hills, and smooth-fast mx track. One of my favorite technical parts of the course was the "step-up". The "step-up" was located below amateur camping near the road. The first time I went up it I was kinda forced into it. The line to the right was clogged with riders so I sucked it up and hit it. When I landed on top I got a lot of thumbs up and clapping from the crowd that had gathered at the top. That gave me a burst of energy that carried me for a while. I continued to hit that step-up everytime around cuz it was just plain fun....and a faster line too :D . Now onto the bad news. I was almost done with my 4th lap when I heard a horrible noise.....silence. I looked down to find that my chain had fallen off the rear sprocket and bound itself up between the sprocket and the swingarm. A few of mechanics from a bike team tried their best to give me a hand and fix it but to no avail (thanks again guys). I was sadly towed back to my campsite by the track crew. Ended up with a 22nd place finish in my class. Will definitely return next year to give 'Diller another go!! Aaron #892

Pappy, I must be the only 250r you don't have a picture of...oh well. Thanks anyways. Thought you might have one of my lousy start lol.

my88r, I was in the 20+C class #892 on my 1986 Honda 250r. Has silver plastic with blue Nac's graphics (as described in my post on page 5 lol). Here's a few more details...black maier scoop hood, Razr2's front and back, oversize tank, and I had on black and white Fox gear. I think there were 4 250r's in the morning race and a 400ex with a 250r motor in it.
