Have any of you out there put a motorcycle motor in your 400ex or another quad?

I know it may sound a little nuts to even think about, but hey why not?

While riding trails in West Virginia this weekend I began to seriously contemplate this. Seems all the big 4 wheel drive quads are already headed that way (Polaris 800, King Quad 700 etc.).

So why not maybe a Honda 996 Vtwin motor in a 400ex?

I've actualy seen, once, a Honda 35O ex with a Ninja 600 motor. However, the build was somewhat a hack. Very fast though! Just didn't look all that safe ;)

Any thoughts?

First off the 400ex motor is a motorcycle engine. Straight off of the XR400, well not straight off but pretty close.

Second, most motorcycle engines are pretty huge. If you can find one that well fit you have to seriously consider how serious you are. If you do it you have to be basically married to your bike. There are no directions for this so you have to be damn good or you may end up destroying your 400.

i think it would be rather easy really. that is if you have any good fab skills

it is real easy, although my dad does own a fab shop, so we consider easy, just make it a little longer, if that.

Some of these modern 1100 and 600 streetbike I-4's are getting pretty light and compact..

What i would like to do is find a rolling DS650 chassis, cuz thats a big strong comfortable chassi.

There was a turbo-hayabusa DS650 on ebay a while ago, making like 350-400hp, but it looked like it was made to fit in the bike, and it didnt need to be stretched, he only got an extended swingarm. If you put a stocker or +3 on, it was still easily trailable, thats if u wanna kill yourself. hahaha
