I just picked up a 11.5:1 JE piston for my 04 450r, should i have gone with a CP or wiseco, i had a wiseco piston in my 05 450r and that is still running great. just leave your opinion

thanks
Mat

Most people will say that JE and CP are the best two u can get.

I recently just bought a CP 12.1, yet to install it tho.

je doesnt have much over stock, and the cp is one of the best "shelf" type pistons, ask chad 502ex about them, he sells them both.

je shelf pistons are a very good choice. they have forced pin oilers and non of the ring seating problems that (some) people report with the cp pistons. je is my top pick

ring seating problems... hmmmm..

I'm told the difference between the manufacturing process between JE and CP is that CP chooses to mill their ring grooves after the dome milling work to prevent ring land shift during the dome machining process, where JE does their ring groove milling first then dome work...

CP method is more true to be flatter since the part has already been machined as final shape before cutting ring grooves....

Truth is all the shelf pistons would perform nearly the same... I prefer CP over JE, then Wiseco cause its billet and not forged...

I've had a JE 13:1 thermal coated piston in my 450r for almost a year now, and have had no problems what so ever. I would recommend one for sure!

i put a je 12.8:1 in my 06 at the beginning of the year. the wrist pin trashed my rod it think. it is scored pretty bad, and the piston is done. always clean oil, and clean air filter, i dont get it

maybe it was installed incorrectly. don't know. just a thought.

i put a 11.5:1 JE in mine over a year ago, and still running strong. I would recommend a JE.

if it would make you feel better then yes. but the je is a great slug.

400ex707 i heard it the other way around but i could be wrong, either way the two copanies are run seperate from each other, its not like the pistons come off the same line and fall into what ever box (wiseco/je) that is open. thats one reason that JEs have pin oilers and wisecos dont. kinda like ford buying cummings and dodge having the better diesel engine then ford. even though ford owns the dodge engine manufacture.

Yes I know, just an FYI I was throwing out. If one was truely superior to the other, I would think they would have updated one or the other.

Wiseco owns JE now. Wiseco is a big company who also is with carillo rods. They are all Dover companies, and I too work for a Dover company, which is how I know.

then i heard it backwards, thanks for the correction.

here is something else that might matter then again might not. curtis sparks likes the JE pistons for the 04/05 trx and the CP pistons for the 06/08.

my guess is it has something to do with the skirts but thats just my guess.

I have heard that the higher compression je pistons on the honda's had some problems. Has anybody heard of this. Also on ebay the cp pistons are around 50 to 60 more dollars. Does this mean that they are a better piston. I am fully willing to purchase a JE piston but the rumor i heard scares me. I live around 5000 feet elevation.

if this were true then JE would be out of buisness in a year. they are both very good pistons. and there are more similarities then diffrences so how can you say no comparison.
did your builder show you shelf pistons from each company? what looked so much better when lined up?

In the 04/05 motors nearly everyone on this site was using JE 13.5:1 pistons, before all the 14:1's became popular. I run a JE 11.5:1 no problems yet and I wouldn't hesitate to run a JE again.
