I have an 04 660R. Its been running beautiful lately. I've been working a lot lately so havent had a chance to ride it.
It sat in my storage unit for about a month, full tank of gas, and I guess I left the gas on reserve the whole time. Well trying to start it today, it would not stay running. It kept backfiring, popping sounds, whenever I gave it gas it would stall out. It only ran stayed running with the choke fully on.
I tried tapping on my carbs, playing with the idle, fresh gas. What should I look at next?

Likely a float valve stuck due to varnish from sitting with old gas. Tap both bowls (lightly) with a plastic or rubber hammer and see if it goes away. (you already tapped, try a little harder)

Open both float bowl drains... bet one continues to drain, other is dry or almost. That'll tell you if a float valve is stuck and which one.

Good Luck!

Great! So, either the float valve is stuck closed in that carb, or the fuel is not getting there from the tank or through the other carb (if its the right carb... ). Most probably the float valve.

fixed it today, the float needle was stuck. Had some junk in it
