i was in some drags/pulls/obsticle course today.

and in the drags..MAN my 400ex got raped.

there was a 660 raptor, 700 raptor, a can am 800, a grizzly, a 350 warrior, 350 banshee, a new polaris, a little bit of everything, and i could not come close to any of them.

but, i am doing a motor build very very soon.

11:1 piston, 416, ported head, and a set of cams, and new clutch. and a slip on, filter, jetted. would that beat say the 660 in a drag?

what would it take to be as fast/faster than one. im tired of having a slow quad, in a straight line neways.

i can change my plans and build it differently. its somewhat of a budget build, but will consider many diff routes.

I think that build is OK, but IF you want max power I'd make a couple of changes:
12:1 compression with 110 octane race gas
Heavy duty head studs
Heavy duty cam chain
Full exhaust system
450R carb

Then you'll beat fairly stock 660s, 450s, any 350 warrior or 350 raptor. I can't speak about the banshee and the 700 raptor will be tough. Utes may take you on the top end, but you should spank them up to 60 or so.

Just my $.02 worth.

ive got a hmf pipe, stage one cams, uni, and jetted.

and yes..even grizzly beat me, see it was muddy so he got full traction and i sure didnt. but even the can am 800 utility quad, beat the banshee and everyone else.

I say go with bore and stoke. Do some porting as well and I would deffinately thing you would win. My friends 440 hauled a**! It had power all the way, I cant remember a single part of any gear where the acceleration slowed. I mean it was night and day from stock.

i say fast + need + cheap = NOS!!:D

if you are just concerned on the drags part and need an instant pick me up for a few seconds.... go nitrous. cheap easy and effective.

i never actually got to run against the warrior, we was knocked out in the first race along with me.

i raced another 400ex first race, but i bogged and he got the jump out of the hole so he won.

does a 460 stroker make THAT much more power? like is it worth the 4-500 dollars for a crank i dont need?

09-16-2007, 06:33 PM
well, stock makes 27.2HP or around there. With a big bore 44 i see people making 45HP+ And this 1 440 on this site makes 62HP because they have nitrous. Now if that doesnt kill everything then go with a turbo and make around 70HP

im not looking to build something like that. if stock is 27, id like 40

What does a stock 450 make?

sounds like all u need are some good mud tires. all the power in the world is no good if u cant get it to the ground.

no, that was just a rainy day. its always dry racing. what i need is hp

09-16-2007, 08:48 PM
I say go with bore and stroke, port and polish, maybe stage 2 cam, full hmf exhaust. I mean to get 40hp it isnt cheap. But it depends if your willing to spend the cash or not to go fast.

i think for the time being ill go 440 kit 12.5:1 compression, stage 2 cams, hmf exhaust, port and polish. then if i still dont find it enough, ill tear apart sometime and put in a stroker crank

the same thing was happening to me when i had mine. i even had a pipe, small tires, the right gearing, everything for drags and stiff got killed. so instead of doing a motor job i just saved up and bought a 450. you can have as much power as a 450 in your bike you just cant have it in the right spots as a 450 does. it just doesnt cut it. if i were you just save your money instead of putting a bunch of money in your motor and find a cheap used 450. thats just me though.

i definetly did consider it, and i may very well end up with a 450r for next season as i will be racing mx, with you i might add tanner lol. and it seems my 400 wouldnt keep up with those guys.

haha your right. you can race a 400 its just you have to put a bit more money into it to keep up. when i raced it i was finishing about middle of the pack with just a few mods to help it. but as soon as a raced my friends 450 on the track i knew it was no wheres near them. now i just bought a 450 and the first race i went in i won so it defiantly helps.

the problem is not the bike but the driver I draged stock 400Ex's and won against 450 quads so.....
