View Full Version : Head and Valve cover bolts

If anyone can help me, i would greatly appreciate it. I will be putting my 400 back together next week and need the torque specs for the head and valve cover bolts. i know the order to tighten them just not the torque specs. Thanks.

valve cover - 15 n.m or 11ft.lb
cylinder head cap nuts 44n.m 33ft.lb
cylinder head cover bolt (8mm) 24 n.m 17ft.lb

Just to clear things up a bit....

That bolt is the one larger bolt in the center of the valve cover.
I think some people aren't aware that the 8mm spec is the bolt shaft diameter not the head/socket size. Some confusion may be because the rest of the valve cover bolts use an 8mm socket.

thanks JOEX, its a 12mm head size on the center bolt on the cover right?? just makin' sure i got it right. all the little 8mm head size bolts are 11 ft. lbs. the cap nuts are 33 ft. lbs. thanks for all the help.

I'm not sure what the head size is but there's only one of 'em, can't miss it;)

My OEM manual says 9ft-lbs for the 6mm flange head valve cover bolts (those are the 12, 8mm socket size bolts). 9lbs, 11lbs, whatever--just be careful with those. They don't need and can't take much torque.
