Why do you think it needs to be tightened?

The nuts for the head studs are accessed by removing the valve cover. Two of them can be reached with a torque wrench easily. For the other two the cam needs to come out.

just take it out an make sure tyhe chain dosent fall in. getting it timed when it goes back in is actualy quite easy. put it in with the lobes down and line the fly wheel marks up so its at tdc. then use the markers on the cam gear to line it all up. one pointing straight up and the others lined with the head.

A service manual for the 400EX will answer all your questions ;)

I've worked on mine so many times and it still comes in handy. The torque values alone are great to have in front of you.
