For the last 3 weeks I've been tearing down, coating, and putting back together. Actually, it only took me around 6hrs to tear it down and around 9-10hrs to put it all back together. Majority of the time was spent on prepping everything to be sprayed. I was tired of the old candy red frame as it was beginning to look faded so I decided to give the bike a makeover.

1st pic is what she looked like before the makeover.

First, thanx for the compliments guys. I spent a couple of weeks wrecking myself on the colors that I wanted and still wasn't quite sure even when I was spraying them. When I got it all back together I was pleased with the outcome.

As far as how long the paint will last vs PC. Powder coat is alot thicker when applied and the heat makes makes the pc bond to the metal better.

When I spray my rims, nerfs, and arms I'm not using automotive paint. I'm using a rustoleum oilbased paint and thinning it out. Not too thin! I apply it thick but not so thick as to where it'll run. The more even coats you apply the better protection. Here, I only applied 3-4 coats because I already had a foundation from spraying them 2yrs ago or so. If you could heat these up to up around 250 degress for around 20-30 minutes it'll make the paint bond better and harden at the same time.

The frame was sprayed with a basecoat/clearcoat automotive paint. This can be a hassle because it's not as durable as what I used above. Automotive paint takes quite awhile to cure. Have you ever passed by a paint shop and see the cars sitting out in the sun? That's part of the curing process. The heat from the sun helps to bake the paint in. It could take a month or so for a fresh automotive paint to cure completely. Even then, if not applied thick enough it'll still chip. This is my first experience spraying a dirtbike frame with automotive paint so I'll see if it's going to hold up. I think it will because of the coats that I applied but it's just a matter of the paint curing completely.

love the bike but the graphics kit is ugly as hell imo.

I been wanting to paint my frame but i dont feel like stripping it down to the frame. Too time consuming.
