Have you checked the adjustment on your throttle cable or even the idle adjustment on the carb?

How do I know if the if it is the throttle cable? I did adjust the idle screwand tryed changing jets. Could it be anything in the motor besides the carb?

You can try adjusting the throttle cable and see if the idle changes. You could have an intake leak also so check all your connections at the engine and the carb. I doubt it is anything internally in the engine but you never know.

Did you yank on the cable at all? If so you might have yanked a casing out of the cable and then you need a new cable.

I found the problem. when I adjusted the idle screw the cable was frayed and did not turn in the carb. thanks

I am currently having the same problem, what did you have to replace to get it working again?

The idle adjustment screw, the metal coil on it frayed. you can adjust the screw on the carb itself to see if it is the problem.
