what is the difference between 2 and 4 ohms? and can i hook up any amp to any sub(s)? and how does the rms power relate to amplifiers and subs? and what exactly is bridging and how does that relate to ohms?

think of it this way....the higher the RMS the better...its the optimum performance area

you can hook any amp to any subs as long as u wire it right and unless your using high end subs there no point in bridging...get a dual channel amp or just wire the subs in parallel...if u need any more help PM me...i work on this stuff for a living

the ohms is resistance, the less resistance the more power. the rms (root means squared) is the safest continuous power handling. bridging is when you "bridge" two channels together to make a mono channel. give out more power and the ohms you get depend on how your wiring is set up.

so if i was to buy a 500 watt amp at 2 ohms would a sub with a power handling range of 100-400 watts rms work?

it would work just fine, there are only a few amps on the market today that push the true amount of watts advertised. Only ones I actually know of are JL audio amps

I think i just figured some of this out......so if i was to wire two 500 rms watt subs parallel so that its running 2 ohms to a 500 rms amp would the 500 watt amprage of the amp be split 50/50 to each sub........like each sub is getting 250 watts of power?
