had some free time today so i weny ahead and foud out for myself it these heads are different

well there are but only alittle....the head will fit on the studs just fine, but you can use any dowel pins cause there located in different spots......also the chain guide has to be shaved down alittle and thats it............i tried it on my bike but the 06 head i have has .030shaved off the head and the exhaust side was to tight,i did start it for a few seconds and i could hear alittle tap that should not be there.
BUT now you know for those that want to run a 06 head on there 04/05 it can be done and if your worried about the dowel pins just have it machined to fit,but there not really needed
htye just help line up the gasket and head but if you know what your doing ypu can get away without them......pic

huh. i would have thought it would never work. can you measure the distance across the dome, to see if the are the same?

and i know this is off subject but are you going to try that cheap ebay nitrous kit. i am really wanting to know if it works.

yes alot of people think it won't work but it can and its not hard either

everything else seems to be the same + there are afew guys running a 06 head on a 05......i would have kept this one on if it was not shaved .030......and being that i also have a 14.1 and my cylkinder is shaved r the exhaust clearance was to tight

no noss for me right now

good buck, but can you tell me why you would do this anyway? do you have some flowbench data that shows that the 06 port flows more than the 05, or something?

also, the intake carb to port angle is different too, do you have any struggles there you want to talk about? I understand what they are but the others may benefit it they desire to do this....

BTW: the dowel pins are needed where the top of engine twists under loading so that the engine mounts dont bind the cylinder head within the frame...

afew builder said it would work so i tried it....and ron hamp also said you can put a crf45- head on ANY year trx

my carb went on fine because i use a 06 airbox and boot

travis fulton has also done it

and may not be good for drag racing on a 05 to go to a 06 head but for mx it may be a good upgrade for more bottom end
