What is the purpose of removing the snorkel, and is it necessarily bad to ride with no airbox lid?

removing the snorkel will basically just give your machine a cleaner look. also, a lot of people do this when they run with no airbox lid and then they block off the hole for the snorkel. running without a lid is not "bad." just be careful of where you do this as it will be vulnerable to mud, water, and extreme dust.

Get an EHS Racing Airbox Lid. (http://www.ehsracing.com/products/400ex_airbox_EHS.htm) It breathes really well and offers some protection against water and dust.

not a good idea to remove the lid or snorkle if you ride in areas where you may ancounter lots of water or mud. that mod is more suitable for dryer places like dunes...

Riding with a snorkel/airbox lid and without them is the difference between breathing through a straw and a wide open box :blah:

Provided you rejet for an open airbox, much larger gains in power can be had by "opening up" the intake tract. More air + more fuel = more powaa  It's that simple.

Also not necessarily bad if you don't run in a lot of water and have a good filter in there ( I prefer foam in dusty conditions).

I second the EHS Lid.

just dont remove the snorkel and not block it off. It makes your engine seem like your trying to breathe while going down the highway doing 70mph with your head out the window lol
