What are your thought about this engine and being a 4spd?

09-07-2007, 09:29 PM
thats the 450 quad correct? Man if thats a 4 speed thats weird. Can't imagine acceleration will be all that great because gears give you a variety of things. More gears means you can have shorter gears therefore having the powerband start over in every gear which makes you accelerate more. So 4 speed I would think its streched out.

Why don't you ask this question in the Kawi forum??

I have ridden one of those bikes and I have to say that the power is incredible and the gearing I think would work well for a quad. I have a yamaha 426f and the power is good but the kawasaki has brute force which when geared right would be masive in a quad. I also thought the gear spacing was just right for a quad in my opinion. I dont know what the durability of the power plant is like but the torque power is fantastic.

Because it's a kfx forum and i'm asking about the kxf motor as a doner for a z400 chassis.

That's good to hear. Thxs

Does anyone have any ideas on how to run a head light.I don't do many trails but it would be nice to be able to go out for a few rips this winter at night.

And also if the oil is in the engine or it had the oil in the frame.

you'll probably have to get an after market stator with lighting ablities to run a headlight.Or get one from the offroad model;)

try a rmz motor the 450... my buddy had one and it was a nice bike to me but he didnt like it because it just called for a littl more time for it... like the timeing chain tensinor(sp) didhave a spring on it that would adjust as it need it... ever so often you had to take it and twist it all the way back and then put it back or something... kinda hard to explain... and keep it all suzuki since the kaxi and suzuki are pretty much the same bikes... to mea nt way the kawi is the same is the zuki

Why would i switch to a rmz when I already own the kxf motor and it 80% done?

If you had a newer motor the KLX450 electrical might work to give it lights and electric/kick start.

4-speed would be pretty wierd for me. I always get tripped up on a 5 speed let alone a 4.

I wanted to try to put a CRF450X motor in my quad but I haven't seen any for sale. I might try a electrical swap for electric start and lights.

Keep us posted with pics.

Hi,

I´ve been trying to collect infos on a 450 engine in a z-frame for over one year. To me this is the first picture i´ve ever seen with this frame-engine-combination.

@jlracing

Please can you post pictures of the right engine side? Does this KXF engine have a kicker? Up to now everyone told me that a 450 engine with a kicker does not fit in the z-frame cause of the rear frame rail.

Can you also post pictures of how you managed to fix the following parts together:
- swingarm
- rear engine mount

Sorry for the long wait. Still a few small things to do. Rear brakes (caliper is bent) real rad lines, tires, bolt the foot pegs, heat gaurd and a good bath.

Is it just me, or is that headpipe caved in?:eek2:

I had to put the shock ressie facing backwards and reshape the header. Once the bike is 100% done i'm going to straighten it out better or go to a muffler shop with a new one.

I was wondering...

How hard was it to fit that engine into the quad frame?

Here's another approach to getting this engine in a z

WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO DO FOR THE MOTOR MOUNTS? IT LOOKS LIKE YOU DIDNT HAVE TO MOD IT MUCH, THAT IS A KX450F ISNT IT? IF SO WHAT YEAR?

MIne is an 06, Mostly just cut the mounts of and reused 4 of them. I had to build a new rear one for where the swing arm bolt would go on the kxf. It fits in the swing arm opening but it put the sprocket to low and over to the right to much. And it put the carb hitting the upper shock tower mount (cross bar). So i lifted the engine a bit higger and brought it ahead a little bit and had to push it 3/4" to get the sprockets to line up. And i had to lift the front of the tank and stem mount up an ince to clear the head with the on off valve.

Kawi rider 97 before you go any further go check your gas tank valve, sprockets lining up,kicker clears the frame, carb and header clear the cross member for the shock mount. Looks like you may have put the motor in the z swing arm bolt and these are the issues i saw.

I hope so, it really pulls hard through the gears right now but i need to drop 4 teeth or so in the back. Way to slow, but will go sideways on the pave taking off.
