i have a 2001 300ex that i ride mostly fast trails and hills. the shocks front and rear are worn out and i am not sure to bite the bullet and put works shocks on it or try to swap to a 400ex front end...and if that ends up being my descision, how will it mount strait up

well...
if you want to save some money,

get a 2001 raptor 660 rear shock..... works great on a 300ex,

and as far as the front goes, if you dont want to spend the money for works you can just get the relocator bracket and 400ex shocks,,

or you can do the whole 400ex front end which requires
relocator bracker
400ex aarms, shocks, tie-rods

spindles (optional, but they do perform better)

i think im gonna break down and buy the works for the front, but the raptor shock for the rear sounds good..will it bolt strait up?

yes, a 2001 raptor rear shock will bolt straight up, you dont use the linkage, just make sure it has a remote resivior not a piggyback,

i have one forsale but needs repaired (pm me if interested)
im only asking 40 shipped, and colby at c&d said he can repair it pretty cheap,
