I am about to buy a 2002 Raptor 660 with a Fmf complete exhaust with a stock motor and i would like to know if it is a good trail bike and if its really a high maintnance bike. In other words if it's always broke down, thanks

are you looking at an '01 or an '02? The '01 had some tranny issues and usually sell for around $1k less then the other years..

no i am looking at an 02', i know about the tranny problem in the 01 but i've heard that the 02' did not have those problems

That is my understanding also. After '01 the gear ratio was changed in the rest of them. The only other big "issue" is the one-way starter bearing, but my understanding is that any year 660 may have this issue.

I bought an 01 raptor new in 01, still have it, had to rebuild tranny with 02 gears. Other than that its been a great quad. Recommend slip on exhaust and jet kit, made a huge difference in power. Only negative on bike is oil change is a bit of a pain, because you have to drain oil from (2) locations, and front oil reservoir is difficult to get at. My 2 cents.

Hello there!
I have a 02 660 and have had real good luck with it. No tranny problems or with the starter. I run a yoshimura full pipe and a K&N filter with a jet kit. The one thing you will want to watch is the rear axel bearings if you are in alot of mud and water. Also keep a eye on the long bolt in the front of the swing arm. That likes to lock up and you will not be happy. Other than that it's a good bike. Good luck and happy ridding.

thank you for all the information, I should buy it this week. Just to make it clear it is an 02, not an 01.
