my 03 400ex has stopped finding Neutral while running. Can get it into neutral while engine is stopped though. New clutch cable did not help (though it was pretty bad).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Pull the clutch in and rev it a little while trying to find it.

Worked for my 450r.

Aye, sounds like you may jsut need to re-adjust the clutch. The cable has probably just stretched overtime. If the plates are slightly dragging it makes it harder to get into neutral. That is why revving it a bit makes it easier, it brakes them loose.

get it into first and just give it a little gas and let the cluth out just so you roll like a foot it should be eisier to get it into neutral

usually for me i go in first and let out the clutch alittle so the quad moves alittle then neutral is real easy to find

The clutch basket Is probaly grooved up. The disks stick In the grooves, this makes the clutch drag like the cable Is not adjusted right. You can file the grooves out of the cluch basket, but you must remove it first. There Is also a slot In the shift star, that you click over everytime you shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear. If that Is worn down, neutral will be hard to find also.

Just how big a job is this. I have the manual; it looks like I will need a clutch tool. An afternoon? Longer?

thx.
