Alrite so about an hour ago i went to take my paddles off my quad and i titghtened one of my lug nuts down to much. i pushed so hard to get it off that the lug nut got rounded off. anybody got any ideas on how to get it off? i've hear of people welding a rod to the damaged lug nut and spinning it off but i dont really want to do that. got any suggestions?!!!!:( :(

well if you dont want the lug cut thro it that way u can just break/pull it off ... maybe you could try and do something with a dremel

wait what are the lugs made out of ... if there aluminum u wont be able to weld ... unless u can tact weld lol or u wanted to waste the time to heat treat it like a million times

what were u using to pull of the lug ... impact gun or ? a ratchet and a socket ? wrench(not smart idea) ... what size does the yfz use 17 mm?

YFZ is a 14mm. same thing happened to me on my new YFZ, I think the guy before me used an impact to put it on, i was using a break over. I am either going to beat a smaller socket on there or buy one of those special sockets to get it off. I will buy a new lug, hopefuilly i wont have to cut the stud

I'd just get a 12-point socket, in a size a bit smaller then 14mm(Probably a socket your not worried about throwing away)

Smack it onto the lug nut real well, then spin it off. Shouldn't have an issue getting it off that way.

My friend used an air grinder on it...But I don't suggest that for you to do.

Just get some vice grips, clamp it on there as tight as possible and just man up. :macho

You guys are crazy with all this welding and stuff lol. Just take a chisel and a big hammer and start chilsing away.

That's what I'm saying.

Must be only body builders like us that can hulk up and use pliars/vice grips.

Sure, on front wheels, pliars/vice grips would be the easiest way.

But i've never heard of anybody putting "paddles" on the front........try to use pliars on a regular offset rear wheel.... not gonna happen.

That's what I would do. Then put the socket in a vice and hit it with a punch/hammer to get the lug out. Surprising how well that works.

same deal happened on my warrior, just hammered a 13mm on there got it loose an hit the socket off the nut with a hammer before i got it all the way off the lug so i didn't have to deal with a nut stuck in one of my sockets.

This isn't going to sound right but....

I'd like to see you get your nuts off with Vise Grips:eek2: :blah:

I actually tried that after I took the picture.

I had to hulk up...But I got it off just fine. :macho

P.S.

I didn't have my hand like that to take it off...I turned it, and gripped the other side with my other hand...It's just that position showed it better than the other ones and I was trying to show that you could fit a vise grip/plier in there.

also the way you have it doesn't give you much leverage but it can be dont the way cannon is thinking offers much more leverage and a easier twist but it cant be done on rear wheels like that

what i do at work with broken bolts and stripped out nuts all the time is get a nut that will fit over the old one and weld the new nut to the old one, let it cool and just spin it off usually works great

The "best" solution is also the most expensive.

Sears (Craftsman) sells a "Bolt-Out" (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952160000P?vName=Gifts&keyword=Bolt-out) kit specifically designed to remove rounded or damaged nuts and bolts. They also sell the same kit in an Impact Grade (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952165000P?vName=Automotive&keyword=Bolt-out) for a few bucks more.

These things work better than anything I've ever seen, and I didn't have a problem buying because I always like to own my own tools.

A less expensive, but just as effective method, take it to any automotive tire shop. (Les Shwab, Big-O, ect ect.) They have their own specialty tools to remove damaged lug nuts, without ruining the studs themselves. If they charge anything at all, it won't be much.
