Lots of people like to use 38mm carbs on stock bore, but that's usually on a ported engine.

With the stock porting, I would say you really can't take advantage of anything over about 36mm. So a big-ol' 39mm will give you worse throttle response and low-end, without any advantage in the upper end.

Unless you get a smoking deal, I would say that money could be better spent elsewhere, and a good-quality port job would be my first suggestion.

38 mm a/s is a carb you can use now...but when its ported it will rip!unfortunately.....you will get used to it

Well, without porting it doesnt do any good to jump up to a larger carb. Being that you already have an aftermarket pipe I would say the next best bang for your buck would be a 1 Dir Racing G-3 reed valve. You will definitely notice a seat of your pants difference in power with this.

A 35 AS would work good, couple that with some TDR or Carbon tech reeds and port out the stock cage or the best VF. Dont waist money on a G3 setup. Your on LT500hq aren't you, if so you should know plenty about which reeds are the best right?

A 38as might be ok depending on the pipe, a LRD would still be pretty smooth. Say a ESR 5 though would be real pipey and kinda difficult to ride. No point if you dont plan on porting later though.

unless your getting a smokin deal on the carb i wouldnt put in on there right now.

i would wait and set the engine up for the dunes. ie porting, pipe, reed cage, carb ect ect. putting a 39 on your quad now will kill the bottom end.

as long as the tapper bore is done correctly it will be fine. if not, they run like crap. especially being a pj. they are tuff to tune to start with.
