how hard is it to put a four stroke motor in a laeger 250r chassis? Also what is involved in doing it? thanks

It's probably just as hard as any other 250R frame. You'll have to do a lot of cutting and fabbing of motor mounts.

What kind of Laeger chassis do you have?

I'm sure you could sell it and use the money for a frame made especially for that. In fact depending on the motor you want to use, I know where there is a CRF frame for sale

It is a 2004 250r chassis with tpin. the frame and everything is in awesome shape and motor runs great. Just looking into alternatives? May put a 150r motor in it and let my boy race it in a couple years. we'll see?

If it's a 2004 it's probably one of the newest around. Unless it's in rough shape I wouldn't consider hacking that up, and a 150 motor he would only ride for a very short while, so it wouldn't be worth it.

Is it a cr500 link, narrow front? or wide front - post some pics. It could be worth 2k.

Yeah its in good shape its been raced about 11 hare scrambles then sat in a garage for years. Has a lrd 270 powervalve quik change clutch cover and runs good starts pretty much first or second kick. It is narrow up front with the cr500 rear. Chrome swing arm and tpin . red in color.

I have a 2002 Laegers YZ frame, fliptop subframe and CR500 link swingarm made for this frame for sale. Frame was made to accept the YZ426 motor, but I know a YZ450 motor will fit with very little work to the lower motor mount. PM me if you want more info and pics.

Matt you still have that thing?

Anyhow, yes. I put a YZ426 frame in 2001 Laeger chassis. Narrow CR500 link 250R frame.

We did it as right as it could be done. You'd think the frame was made for it.

Only trouble I had was clearance of the carb boot and the rear shock. It fits, but it's tight and works well.

We machined a '89 style CR link swinger to fit around the engine on the YZ. Made custom machined bushings for the engine so the 250R pivot bolt would fit through.

Then we relocated the pivot bolt and put a new chromoly pivot tab on it and double plated it.

Cut out the bottom "V" rails and put in a cross member with lower motor mounts. (engine sits level with the bottom of the frame)

We removed the upper shock supports and added a headstay designed to use stock YZ dirt bike headstay mounts, and redirected the upper shock supports to the headstay.

And ended up moving the lower shock linkage a little bit since we relocated the pivot bolt, so that the geometry was still the same in the rear end.

The conversion was done by Vucina Performance Specialists.. and if you didn't know who he is.. he designed the JB YFZ support rails and makes the titanium axles for the 90 mods. He works very closely with JB and can make just about anything. He has been doing 350X and YZ conversions for years. Just to fill anyone in on how good and precise his work is.

If you don't wanna go through all that trouble, I'd be interested in a trade for your 250R frame.. But here are some pics of my conversion

Hey 573 I need to wait till I have major problems with my 250r motor than I will think about what I want to do with the bike. I rode 4 strokes for years but i like my 250r. On the other hand your bike is probably one of the nicest bikes ive ever seen !!!!!

Thanks man.. well if you're waiting til you have problems with your R, looks like you should be having a 2-stroke for a REALLY long time if you maintain that engine! 4-strokes are nice, but that's why I keep the best of both worlds around
