Tire Size and Gearing

I was wondering about changing the sprocket size when going down sizes in rear tires. Are you supposed to? Will it make a big difference?

You'll want a larger front or smaller rear sprocket to compensate for the smaller rear tires. Depending on how much of a difference in the tire sizes will determine how much of a difference.
