I just picked up my new combo :D

I'm trying to make this build the ultimate rec quad.. just as at home on the trails as it is on the track.

That's why I got the 19-10-9 MXR4 rears and 21-7-10 XCR fronts.. but I noticed as compared to my stockers, and razr2's and the XCR's that the MXR4 lugs are really soft rubber :eek2:

Even the rubber's are a bit different in color.

I do a lot of riding and tires arn't cheap.. am I gonna' be getting new ones WAY before I want to.. :scary: ?

I've always kept my track tires on the track only. I swap em out when I'm just riding. Plus if I'm trail riding I dont want to be that low to the ground.

i had the mxr4s after one race day drop down 50% i was shocked

the mxr6's tho are 100 times better

so the mxr6's have longer tread life? I am running those on the rear of mine 18x10x8's and holeshot mx 19x6x10's on the front

i got thru back tired every two races unless its a sand track like echeconne but it also depends on how hard you ride and how much horsepower you make..

They wear down pretty quick especially on a mx track which is what I use mine for. I am looking into some maxxis or the new itp quadcross tires. They hook up awesome though while they still have good tread.

I have MXR4's in the rear, and from what I've heard. Keep these tires on tracks only..once you start trail riding or hitting the road. They'll be gone in no time! I bought my tires from a Pro racer with a fully built Curtis Sparks 450R, he uses his tires 3 times and then sell them to the local for $60. They have about 5 rides on them, and still have 90% tread left. Mine are 18's.

my mxr6's are gonna be used in light sand, and grassy areas, hardly ever on pavement, so hopefully they will last a full year or close to it

my buddy got into mx and had a trx450r with mxr6's they were 18's, he used them every wed for about 4 or 5 months and there tread went down really fast so if your looking for good wearing mx tires the razr mx are the way to go as long as the kenda klaw mx

if ya don't race mx...the razrs are great...rears anyhow. the kenda fronts I have the best luck with, but I do like the maxxis razrcross fronts. I have found the round profile push much less

ITP Holeshot SX's is what i have used all year and they have worn well for a soft race compound, and hook-up EVERYWHERE

MX tires are not designed to last long so you're looking at the wrong tires.

They are usually a very soft compound and hook up great, but will wear fast. ITP has come a long way in making their race tires last longer, but its still not what I would consider "long"

yea thats true itp has great hook up but not for long i heard the quadcross last a little more than the others

what about grooved turf tamers? How well do they hook?

They're mainly for hardpack, they hook good on two-strokes, they're very light, and they are smaller than advertised sizes whether or not thats good or bad is up to you. My 18x9.5x8 turfs measured at 16.75" tall. Not a lot of ground clearance, and I dont think they hooked well on the 450.

turf tamers hook good on 2 strokes, cuz they can spin them SO fast , they dont work good on 4 strokes because 4 strokes depend on good traction to go fast..

Yes and if I remember correctly that was with something like 8psi in the tires, which I never ran, I always ran around 5. With the stock skidplate, there was about 3 inches of ground clearance in the back, I immediately took the combo off, just too low.
