what size socket for axle nut?

What size socket does the nut that holds the hub take? Also are the threads backwards on either side.

The nut that holds on the hub is 27mm or 1 1/16 in and it is the regular direction. The axle nut near the disc is about 1 1/2 ft pipe wrench or bigger and that is reverse threads.
