i just got a 04 450r with a fatboy 4 pipe k&n and jetted car and a few other mods but i want it to be faster

what kind of engine mods should i do to build a strong, fast , and most important RELIABLE bike that i would be able to just jump on and go and not have to worry about motor propblems and not have to go and buy crazy race fuel like i'm thinking of a small bore, cam and maybe some other things like that?

thanks for any imput?

What compression are you running now? A cam makes a huge difference on this motor.

get a hotcam stage 1 or 2 or an HRC cam. you will notice a pretty big difference

reliable engine? you'd best be off just getting a hotcam stage 2 and leaving it at that

i have thought about a cam before how much of a difference do they make ? and how hard is it to install them like is it something i could do myslef ( i have limited knowledge about motor mods) or would i be better off having the dealership do it and how much would it cost for them to?
stage 1 or 2?
will it through off my jetting or anything else and will my bike still keep its reliability and could i still run on pump gas

o yeah and i am runing stock compression

thank you guys for the info i really apreciate it

thanks

The single one part that wakes up a 450r is a cam. I had a HRC in mine and I liked it, good all around. I rode 450r's with a stage 1 and stage 2 and they were good to. The stage one is great for trail, hill climbing and for the majority of tracks I've been on, it would be good for MX also. The stage 2 is kinda in between leaning a little closer to the HRC.

I have the hc stage 2 on my 04 it def woke the bike up. I think a little porting with the cam would help.

i would def. get a cam and a lighter flywheel and revbox to go along with it...

I would just go get the HRC kit installed.

an 06+ FCR style carb also makes a big difference on the 04-05s and there's no reliability issue there at all. If you did a carb and cam together you'd see a pretty big difference and still have a VERY reliable motor
