Ok I have a 400ex and I bought kenda klaws xcr's the beginning of spring and still have about 85% tread left and I have the tread set for hard packed surfaces. Now I have a hotcam stage 1 and a slip-on HMF along with 13 tooth up front and a 40 tooth in the rear for gearing. I have A LOT of torque and a a lot of wheel spin and part of that is because I only weigh 100 pounds, I haven't gotten a chance to switch around the tread for the soft packed side. I spin from a stop in a slightly hard packed field till about mid 4th gear. And on pavement I spin till i shift into 3rd and I start in 2nd gear. I want to actually feel the power of my quad for once, I geared it down to mx gearing for acceleration and more low end. And when i had stock gearing it was just as bad.

I'm really tired of spinning and just want a long lasting tire that hooks up so that I can wheelie instead of spin for once!

I ride just about every day and o n mostly hard pack but some soft packed trails.

Sounds like you don't know how to wheelie. My quad spins on hard packed trails and such. But you just gotta transfer your weight to the back. Dont pop the clutch when trying to wheelie. Get going a little bit and then throw your weight back and then give it gas.

Yea i don't like to pop the clutch it I just hit the gas and throw my weight back., But when I'm racing my friends around a grass field I'd like to tear it up and not spin. Also when I come out of corners I want to hit the gas and feel my front end want to lift naturally when I get on the gas instead of spin.

If I'm at a slight incline in a grass field I can throw my weight back and give it gas and hold a whellie till 4th possibly 5th if I wanted to.

I had those on my 250, they wore down too quickly and they turn into stubs.

how are the carlisle turf tamers, do they last long?

Holeshot mx. Holeshots hook up so much they dont even slide much i dont liek them.

Same deal!!

I bought a set of them and when I first started they wore down fast.. like the first little part of the raised tread off the main lug. but they got down to about 80-95% tread and even with the crap-load of road riding I do they don't wear at all.

The only downside is they weigh a TON.

And turf tamers won't hook up well.

if you ride hard pack ... the holeshot mxr6 are THE tires for you ... i will grip more than all the ohers tires but will be used fastess ..

Try gaining some weight, 100 lbs. riding a 400EX? lol, sorry not trying to be rude, but that just sounds funny to me.
I just can't see how you would put down any traction in the mud or any soft terrain weighing that much. Check you psi, maybe your putting to much air in the tires, thats a common mistake.

Yeah, even with a bad tire setup.....ran at about 5psi or so, even a decent 400 shouldn't be spinning that badly....I would doubt it would have that amount of torque. Sure, it'll spin, but with the correct pressure, and good riding style, it should be fine.

I've ran a Cannondale with Kendas(with about 7psi) on HARDpack with a sand covering, and with correct leaning, it hooked up very well....You could get it to spin like you described...but, you could get it to hook up just fine.

But, if I'd recommend a tire, it would be the Razr 2 rear......but, being you have 8's...thats not an option without new wheels.

Sounds like you need to improve your riding style.

so the holeshot mxr6's wear down quickly?

It sounds like he geared it so low that its just a serious torque monster. Most people will just drop down the front sprocket. He even went up in the rear. What is a 400ex stock 38 or 39t. He also has 8" rims. Could he be runnin 18s in the back. I understand what you are saying about it spinning but it also sounds like you built it to have to much low end power.

I have 20's on it right now but i'm not sure if i want to go to 18's again. Yea my intention was to have a torque monster at the time but now it just spins. before i gear down I'm going to try the calisle turf tamers. I want to get a stage 2 hotcam but that would be too much work so all I want to get is a headpipe to increase the mid range.

have you tried putting a 14tooth back on since the cam?
