you seem to have a similar setup to mine. i still have stock gearing on mine but i bought a 13T and a 15T sprocket to tune while im out riding. i rode it on the street the other day and it seems under geared now. i go through the gears so damn fast its not even funny... i find myself constantly looking for 6th gear:rolleyes:

I have the 02 and the best gears for me and my mods in the sand and off is the 14 and 38. You can beat it.

Mine is the stock 15/38 now. After the carb install, I plan on going to 15/37 or 15/36.

14/38. If you don't need as much bottom end, go with the 15/38, which I believe was stock on your bike.

I often find it that I wish I had another gear and I don't even have all the stuff you have. I would say a 16T would be my choice.

15/38 is stock????

i thought it had a 14 stock from the factory?? mine is an 02 so maybe they changed it?

There were two different factory gearing setups, one was a 15T and another was a 14T, it was just the manufacturer making small adjustments to make the bike better.

i think i may go to a 15T counter. seems like the bike was always under geared just a tad bit.

this is a gear converter chart i found it here a while ago and this will help you to determine your speed based on engine RPMS,tire size and obviously your gear choice.http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/400ex.htm

oops also remember to add RPMS for rev boxes, and the 400ex red lines at about 9100 -9200 rpms i think correct me if im wrong.so if you have a rev box add what ever rpm it increases it to.
