I am considering picking up an Outlaw 525. For 2008, they got that new straight axle model available. It's pretty much replacing the Predator.

What do you all think?

Also, how do your 525's do in the drag races against other machines?

the 525s should defeat all quad but the KTM 525 it is a little lighter.

DEPENDS ON WHERE/WHAT TYPE OF RIDING YOU DO.

I WOULD NOT TRADE MY IRS 525 FOR ANYTHING, BUT I DO MOSTLY FAST TRAIL RIDING AND NJ PINE BARRENS.

AS FAR AS HOW FAST, I'VE ONLY BEEN SMOKED BY A KX500! I'VE PISSED OFF 700 AND 660 RAPTORS, A YFZ450, 400EX, Z400, 440EX, MY OWN LT250(BUDDY RIDING MY 525), AND AN LT450.

I too do a lot of fast trail riding. I know the 525 IRS slides nice in some stuff...but what about in the tight woods on hard ground and at high speed corners on the trail?

I go 240 and will get more traction. Would I need the straight axle to have it slide like I want it to?

I'd like the IRS and the ground clearance it gives for rutted up sections and such.

I also love to drag race,

DRAG RACING, HANDS DOWN THE IRS HOOKS UP HARD!!

SLIDING CORNERS IN THE SAND(NJ PINE BARREN) SUCKS COMPARED TO MY SUZUKI. I DONT KNOW HOW IT DOES IN DUNE TYPE SAND. HARD PACK IT SLIDES LIKE A SOLID AXLE. TIGHT WOODS WITH ROUGH TERRAIN YOU WILL SMOKE ANYTHING. I RODE FOR 2 DAYS (AT LEAST 8 HRS EACH DAY) AT HATFIELD/MCCOY AND HAD VERY MINIMAL BODY FATIGUE THANKS TO HYDRAULIC CLUTCH AND IRS.

JUST MY $.02

The IRS has a much more controlled slide. Once you have ridden the IRS for a while, you will not like the way a SRA quad handles. When riding SRA quads now, it seems to take 4ever before you can nail the throttle with acceleration again waiting for the end to hook up and quit sliding, where the IRS is already hooked up and accelerating ahead.

When drag racing you will always find something faster than you, but take whatever beat you in the drags to the trails and it should be a different story. Those +4 swingers do not like those rough trails. ;)

So the machine feels light under you?

I've had my 500 IRS for a year now, getting ready to upgrade to the 525 IRS. I absolutely love mine!

The only disadvantages I can see anyone making is...

1) extra shock in rear to have to upgrade or mod, if and when you decide stock isn't good enough.

2) little extra weight over SA

3) more wearing parts in rear IRS, grease/ bearings, etc.

4) odd rim offset in back, limited options for rims

5) changing rear sprocket a bit more time involved

Other than that, can't think of another downside. The advantages as far as I'm concerned outway any downside, and unless you're a hardcore MX rider that believe SA is better, I'd say go for it... IRS rules!

i think either machine will kick *** for you, but....... the IRS will leave any SA quad in the dust on trails with rocks and ruts and everything else you can find. i do alot of trail riding when i'm not in the dunes, and you don't have to waste your time picking your lines like you would on a SA. as far as drag racing goes, i got beat once by a fully modded yfz450 with paddles, and i dont run paddles yet. i even raced one of those renegade 800's once in the woods and beat him by a nose or two. go with the IRS, you will be happy

do you feel alot of body roll on hard pack corners like a utility quad does? is it easy to slide around in most trail conditions? what do you miss about the SA quads? is there anything you would like to see different about the IRS?

i dont miss a SA quad at all. i had back surgery may of 2006 and was worried about not riding again, and than i test rode a 500 outlaw but opted for the 525. i can ride all day now and my back doesnt get sore at all. i dont ride as hard as i use to, but i do ride just as hard or harder than the average joe. i havent felt much or any body roll at all. i think with the irs i tend to lean more and put a little more body english into turning than i did with a straight axle. i love this quad, if your thinking of one i would recommend one to anybody. plus they are blazing fast
