Im pulling my Pontiac 301 out of my LeSabre and i was gonna keep it in case i end up thrashing my 355 eventually. I was planning on puting a set of heads off of a Pontiac 265 v8. This should work shouldnt it? I've heard of guys doin this with Pontiacs bigger motors such as the 455 and such. Why im asking is because a friend doesn't believe me that a pontiac 301 is the biggest small block that Pontiac produced. And the way i figure it is that those 265 heads should work is because its just a smaller version of the 301 right?

265 and 301 heads interchange with each other, but not with the bigger 326-455 Pontiacs. Different intakes on the 265 and 301. The 301 really isn't worth saving if it has alot of miles on it and you really can't pull any power out of it. If you want to keep a Pontiac motor in the car, look for a 400, it's the best motor they made. Even late 60's 350's ran pretty good. 421, 428, and 455 are great motors too, but say goodbye to gas milage.

My brother had a 301 turbo in an 81 trans am. Anyone remember those pos?
Anyways, why not junk that 301 and put a small block chevy in there instead. Lighter, more powerful, cheaper parts. There is a reason Pontiac switched over to small block chevys in the 80's.

i think the only diff is the bell housing doesn't come to a point on the top of it like it does in chevy vehicles.

Buick, Olds, and Pontiac starters are on the left (driver) side. Bell housings are the same for all three. Chevy bell housings are a different bolt pattern and will not work on B-O-P motors.
