View Full Version : oil filter cover bolt

Okay... I changed the oil and oil filter on my 400ex over the weekend. When I was puting the "long" bolt back in the oil filter cover, I didnt even get it tight and the bolt stapped at the threads. So like half the threads are in my engine block. The thing that frustrates me is that It wasnt even tight. I know not to tighten a bolt till it snaps but it was barely even getting snug when it broke off. Errrrggg. I tightened the other bolt and the oil never leaked out of the cover. I rode it all day Sunday, periodically checking for leakage and there was none. So here's the question.....

1) How hard is it to take that side cover off the engine block with linkage so I can E-Z out the bolt?

2) Is that long bolt only supposed to be torked down 1 time then replaced?

Thanks so much for your help. Any advise is appreciated.
