View Full Version : Round 8 - Rockhouse

Bonnie Cook

What a way to end the long summer break - Rockhouse. The weather was hot all day, but cooled off right before the quad start. We thought we might get a little rain shower, but a little drizzling at the end of the race was all. With just over 80 quads on the line, we were ready to get this show going.

The Pros are ready

When the green flag went up, Jeff Maloney took the holeshot

Bonnie Cook

Bryan Cook last off the line and eating major dust.

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:32 AM
IN the A Class, Robby East shot off the line and took a commanding lead leaving the rest in dust!

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:38 AM
The holeshot in the B 16-24 year old class goes to David Reeves with Norm Cornell right behind him for second.

I want to extend a Mid East get-well-wish to David's brother, James, for an injury that will probably have him out for the remaining 2007 season. James is BadA**. I feel he would have won the Championship with the speed and consistency he had. James I hope you are back on that quad as soon as you can, cause you got some speed.

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:41 AM
At the four and a half mile point, Jeff Maloney was checked out and stirring up the dust.

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:44 AM
2nd place, Santo, can you see him?!

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:46 AM
Dustin Canipe - third and eating dust

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:48 AM
On the motocross for the first time, Jeff enjoys his lead! See the dust behind him - that is second coming onto the motocross track.

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:50 AM
Santo DeRisi in second

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:56 AM
Third place - Bryan Cook

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:57 AM
Mike Houston, Fourth

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:58 AM
Richie Brown 6th

Bonnie Cook
08-27-2007, 04:59 AM

Eddy, did jason hit that fence corner? Ever since that fence was put up it's been a no brainer that someone's going to eventually hit it. There was one point where I cought up to some of the pro's bottlenecked in that white powder section. From the sound I could tell that they were only a few feet in front of me but I never saw them. That track made me nervous me. I was so tense I couldn't ride!

Our prayers are with Jason and the other guy. Wish we knew his name...
Did anyone beside me, Ron and Tommy Mitchell notice the suspicious boulders that appeared in odd places on the track the last lap? These were not in the sections you would expect them to be? It is pretty sad that with all the injuries and how difficult it was with the dust to think that someone might put boulders in the track to make it more difficult and dangerous.

how about a benefit race, maybe a 3 or 4 hr team race. i hate to see fellow racers go down and my prayers go out to both riders and there families. rick #313

Well I'm glad that all of the boys are okay! Those are some pretty serious injuries! I had a 32 yo motorcycle trauma that died in ICU because of 2 broken femurs, ribs, and pelvic fractures. Yes, broken bones especially the pelvis can kill you. Anyway.... The guy that wrecked on the motorcross track it was his second race. I don't know his name. I'll be praying for you guys! I hope you heal up well!

I think it would be great if an ambulance could standby at the track. From what I understand it took a long time to get those guys out. The critical hour is real its not just a TV show. I would even pay an extra gate or entry fee to cover the cost. I also think pushing the races back is a great idea but I'm sure it would be a tough thing to do.

Gump....a fundrasier is a great idea. I wanted to do one for Joey when he got hurt but I just didn't have the time. I think a ride of some sort would be great!

Troyer23J
09-10-2007, 09:32 PM
I wouldnt normally agree about moving races, I imagine that would be a hassle with the land owners and stuff, getting any later into the fall. However, that race yesterday was too dusty to be safe.
I havent ever just quit a race before, but yesterday I did one lap and pulled in. I've never seen one that bad.

Good luck to all the guys that got hurt.

First off Good luck and heal fast to those that were injured. If there is some sort of fund raiser, benefit ride I will gladly do all I can to help out. Medical bills pile up fast and are not in your everyday budget. The wrist bands we did for Joey raised alittle bit, thanks to all that supported his cause.
As far as the sabatoging of the tracks, this needs to be stopped. This first happened at gold mine and now at parker valley. This is dangerous enough, and challenging to not break anything on ourselves or our machines. Soon these little punks will be caught and for them I hope it's not by me.
As we all know the dust was horrible. You must remember when we are putting ourselves in these circumstances that your own safety and the safety of all the fellow riders is at risk. If you cant see dont push it, there will be better conditions to prove yourself.
Now go do a rain dance and pray for a safe and quick recovery for Jason wyatt and anyone else who was injured this past weekend. If anyone is aware of who else was injured and their condition please post.

I CALLED THE HOSPITAL ABOUT 8:00 LAST NIGHT AND JASON
WAS ASLEEP BUT THE LADY I TALKED TO SAID HE WOULD PROBABLY GET TO GO HOME TODAY. SO THATS GOOD NEWS
ANYWAY!

Mike and I (Crystal) just wanted to wish Jason and anyone else who was injured in Sunday's race a speedy recovery and our prayers go out to each of you.

p.s. I also heard that it took the ambulance a long time to get there to attend to the injured riders. I can only say from recent experience that if there had not been an ambulance and EMT workers on site during Mike's accident...well I hate to imagine what might have happened to him. When we first started racing this series there was an ambulance at each race and I don't know why there is not one anymore. I would be willing to pay extra to get in the gate to secure an ambulance at every race.

I too want to say to those who got hurt, I wish you a speedy recovery and to know that we pray for you.
I was, for the short time that I have been doing this, the most dusty race I have been in. I could'nt even see where I was going at the start. I knew then that I was going to be extra careful so that I would be able to complete the race. Though there were the one (s) out there that were trying to make it even worse by placing very large rocks on the track for no other purpose than to get someone hurt, you know who you are. I far as I'm concerned you care not for the riders of this sport and you are not worthy of being in there presence.
Look forward to seeing everyone again at the next race. Ride well, careful, have fun, and go home the same way you came!
Bonnie, Buren, and staff, THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!:)

The guy that wrecked on the motocross was Ron Shoemake. The info we got was that his pelvis is broken in two places and has swelling around his spine that is prohibiting some movement in his legs. He had to be moved from Shelby to Charlotte because of the type of injuries. He is not supposed to be out of bed for a while and then will have to go through rehab to be able to walk. It was only his second race.

Hey Jeff! Congrates on the second over all. We knew you always had it in you. NOW IS YOUR TIME. I hope to make it to the rest of the other races to cheer you on. Would really like to be running them with you but just ain't got it in me any more. It would maybe be different if I could get some regular riding time in but it's getting harder and harder to get Jimmy and Scott together at the same time and to I ain't gonna lie at my age it's just getting harder and harder to get any motivation for it any more. You know me and Jimmy went at it for a long time. Really got burned out on the travelin time. But anyway THIS IS YOUR SEASON! Keep doin what you are doin and CLAIM YOUR TITLE. YOU EARNED IT!
