Hey guys, I just had 2 bearings seize up in the tranny on my 02 400ex, so I've got it torn down. The bike needs rings, so I figured now would be the time to put them in. The cylinder is in pretty good shape...I could hone it and put rings in, but I was just wondering how much of a power increase I could expect from .040 over and 11:1 compression? The bike has a White Bro's slip-on, stage 2 jet kit, and K&N filter + air lid delete. I'm also stepping down to a 14 tooth sprocket in the front with 38 in the back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh and what displacement would that make it? around a 409 or something? I've got a 1984 CR500R bored .080 over and I've heard it's like a 513 ir 514 (491 stock). think the 400EX is like a 396cc isn't it?

.040" over = ~1mm over = ~406cc.

The extra displacement itself won't do much but the compression increase will be noticed. I ran a JE 10.6:1 406cc with a WB Track cam for several years and liked it. For what it was, it ran well.
