race bikes anygood for trailriding?

im in the process of buying a full race ready yfz and i was wondering if they are any good at minor trail riding also? there would be a bit of challanging dirt bike ruts and mud and narrow trails, will it do ok?

It all depends on the width of the trails and the width of your YFZ. I would say it's okay as long as you'd get an extra set of wheels and tires with some 22/20's on it and it's not too wide for the trails you're riding.

depends on the motor set up..Race motors arn't meant to putt around

if the trails were nice and open you would be fine, none of the putting 1 mph over rocks junk.

In generdal 450's you have to rev much higher and are basically for being a pro at going through the woods or just a track. 450's are built to be a race bike. If you wanted a better trail bike you need something like a 400ex or a raptor. Or wait until the new xr650 honda bigbore sport quad comes out. But the reason 450's dont handle as well in trails is because the length and things. A YFZ450 can navigate the trails as long as you have more bottom end

Hmmm I guess my XC 450 doesnt handle trails very well because of the length and I am not a pro. :rolleyes:


Anyway... 450's are fine in the trails as stated above, make sure it isnt too wide for the trails you are running and throw on some trail type tires. If the motor has a lot of work done to it make sure its staying cool and go have fun.
