Hey guys (and girls). The last time I rode my quad I noticed that around the part of the oil cannister where the dipstick screws into is leaking a bit of oil. It is leaking around the base of the part that sticks out where it is connected to the cannister.

I have not yet taken it apart to see what is going on. Could their be a gasket that is leaking? What else would cause this, and what can I do to fix this problem?

bump....I dont know if I explained well enough. The part that is leaking is where the metal part (where the dipstick screws into) is connected to the cannister itself.

Does this make sense?

The dipstick has an o-ring on it. Both my 400s leak from there. It's not alot, just enough to have a ring of dirt right there when I ride. My riding friends leak from there also, but again not very much.

Thanks for the reply, but its not actually at the dipstick...the part that the dipstick screws into...at the bottom of that where it actually is attached to the cannister...thats the part that is leaking.

Oh, now I know where your talking about. Mine doesn't leak from there.

How bad is it? does it seep, or leak enough to cause a puddle?

I would think you could get it welded, or you can order a new tank from sevice honda. Or try looking on Ebay for a good used one.

what i would try is to clean it up good with alochol or such and put a thin coat of clear high temp(do they make clear high temp) sealant around the union. or find the local welder and have them put a quick bead around it.

High temp red silicone works well also. Just make sure to clean it well with some type of degreaser.

Now, am I wanting to put this on the outside of the cannister...I am going to have to because I dont think there is a way to put in on the inside. Do they not make clear high temp silicon? Thanks all!
