he was trying to hang his little brothers piniata for his b-day party. we did not even know he was doing it, all the wife heard was a thud:ermm: she came and got me cuz he was just laying there (knocked the wind out of him) but after i talked with him and he got up i figured he was ok and he has been in enough wrecks to tell me if he needs medical help etc.

he just got home, tail bone is broke just below the last vertebra and we are awaiting a call from the specialist after he gets a chance to review the xrays...hopefully its just rest and time and no surgery etc. bad part is he starts high school monday, not going to be in the best shape for that and he will not be on a quad or bike for minimum of 6-8 weeks

Sorry to hear about Cody. I wish him a speedy recover. Falling out of a tree is no joke. I've heard that anything over 10' is a 50-50 shot. And as the height goes up the percentage gets higher on severe injury. So tell the boys to stay on the ground!

we just got done talking with a specialist and he had good and not so good news. there isnt anything else in his lower back that he feels needed attention, but he saw a shift in 2 vertebrea just below his shoulderblade that he wants more xrays of. he did not go into detail about how severe or what could be wrong in that region but said it was of concern so we will be visiting the doc again next week.

cj is doing fine, he is just taking it easy, a bit pissed he cant race or ride but he will get over it.

A "shift" sounds like a fairly minor problem, the sort of problem a few visits to a chiropractor could solve.

Broken tailbones aren't fun, but they generally don't create long-term issues. I broke my tailbone a couple years ago (at least I was riding at the time ;) )

When is a broken tail bone a broken back? Or is that what a broken back is?

according to our doctor, and at the time i made this thread, he has a broken back (thank god its only in the tail bone section, which is a far cry from having his spine damaged)

wilkin, many people i know have broken this area, seems like a common break from what i understand. i told cody what you said about you doing it on a quad, he said maybe you should learn to ride better and he should learn to climb more like a chimp:p

when i was at my "specialist" for my broken back there was a little kid next to me who had a broken tail bone in the waiting room, his mom said he just needed rest and to always sit on a "donut" while it heals, the tailboen is part of the Spine but the spinal cord does not go threw it.

my back doctor talk very "sketchy" he danced around the paralized topic i guess not to scare me, i had to tell him to tell me straight up, if it were up to me when that doctor calls back i would demand to know what he ment about his upperback as it is a very hard place to x-ray. In my case i had to take 10 x-rays to get one good one to show where my breaks where

Hopefully everything will turn out alright. Tell him to definitely take it easy, he has plenty of time ahead of him for racing and riding. Plus it's getting close to hunting season so tell him to focus on that and school, that way when it is time to get ready for next year he is ready to go!:) Maybe I'll grab him for a sika hunt since his old man never makes it.:D

Have a good recovery from this one. Tail bones suck, I brused, or fractured mine a couple years ago snowboarding, I don't know what it was, I never went to see a doctor. But I pretty much had to say bye to snowboarding for almost 2 weeks, and just sitting, or standing was not too fun.
