alright one of my friends said he would sell me his 86 250r for 700 bucks.... ok so here is the low down on it... its got bead loc rear rims, +4 axle, +1/2'' out and forward a arms, 400ex front shocks, nerf bars, renthal bars, tether kill switch, reed valve, bumper, grab bar, brand new maier race fenders not installed yet, every bushing was replaced on the quad, brand new lrd pipe, and a few small things.... anyway the story on it is... he rebuilt the whole thing then rode if for 5 hours and it just shut off... now i know he didnt break it in so im thinking he just fried the rings.... but what it needs by me looking at it was... a clutch cable, top end, and front break master cylinder, and the rubber garments to hold the seat in place... anyway my question is... are R's still in demand... i mean i have been out of quads for prolly 1-2 years now cuz i bought a car and idk whats still in? would it be worth it for me to get it.... i am buying it to ride but i am mainly buying it to turn a profit... do they sell fast? is this worth it? if i bought it and put the new fenders on it and all do you think i can get 2500 out of it?

There is nothing like the TRX 250R and there never will be!If i were you i would jump on it. take the deal.fix it up and ride the hell out of it.Dont sell.....period.The top end is a relativly easy abd the rest it a cake walk.tell him ill give him $800.00:)

I'll give him $801  ... lol... but seriously ... U better jump on it like big foot said..

new set of Maiers --- $500
New LRD pipe/silencer --- $525
And axle is about--- $400

right there with those three things alone you are way over the amount that he's askin.. you would be saving alot... and you could easily fix the top end and make a good profit... but my guess is that you would ride it and like it too much to sell.. trust us,, they're fun as hell!..just keep it

I hate to say it but, I honestly believe it would be difficult to turn much of a profit on it. The market for R's just is not what it once was. Look on ebay at all the ones that have a bunch of aftermarket parts that only sell for 2000-2500. I think the best way to turn any kind of profit would be to buy it for $700 and then part it out without spending anymore money on it.

im going to have to agree with blb515;

if your looking for a atv with good power/handleing to rip around on then you have found it.

you can prob. get your money back out of it but as for a profit ?
they are selling for 2-3 grand (and some are real nice)

if you want to ride it, then fix it and you can get your money out of it when your done playing with it.
but if you want to make a few bucks start taking it apart

what you should of done was posted up a 250r for sale with locked up top end, needs this that and the other for 1500 hehe! Im sure it would of sold..

I think 100% you could make money parting it no doubt!!!! the new parts you wont get what they cost new of course but would cover up about 500 of the 700, and the locked up engine would go for about 400.. now your 100 over and have ALOT of parts to get rid of still (frame, wheels, a-arms, etc etc...

I see your in PA. what part? Get some pics of this thing and if its worth it Id give you 1k and you can make 300 for just posting this thread.

yeah right now it looks pretty ruff...but like i said its got the brand new fenders on it and all... i just figured a 250r with all brand new race fenders, polished bumper/grab bar, polished nerfs, gncc a arms, durablue axle, beadlocks rears, renthals, lrd pipe, all new bushings, and new other things would go for more than 1500... i guess the market really dropped

when I was looking to upgrade to a bigger/faster machine the only quads I would think about was how cool it would be to have a 250R because they look amazing and are crazy fast. The other choices were a 450r and 400ex and I just choose the 400ex because I got a killer deal and I dint care to mix gas. Get a 250r and I dont think you will be unsatified they are an awesome quad.

I dont see the value dropping any lower than it is now
(just my opinion)
but here is what I would do.....................

fix it and ride it, when your done put it on the market as a whole and see what it brings (im sure you can get your money back but maybe not alot of profit)
if you want more profit from it then part it out but if your time is worth anything your back to getting your money out of it.
