I had a YFZ450 before I bought my KFX. The KFX has reverse and thats nice. So far no problems. My yfz blew up in the first 9 months of having it. It handles really well in the trail. No matter what machine youget , get skids. The YFZ aarms took a beating.
As far as power I would say they are about the same stock, mod for mod they are close.
I ended up puttting a 06 wr450 motor in ti brand new in 06. My neighbor bought the machine off me and its got HP in the mid 50's like the bike had.
For some reason bike motors rip. I hate california for making them less HP for us non bike riders.
Nothing has broken yet, I keep adding on performance parts as I go. Everything is great.
Does outperform the YFZ on the trail. It sits lower and I think thats prolly why. Both had hard seats. Both needed handlebars raised.

i really like mine. i didnt ride a honda 450 very much because i didnt like how it felt(to high in the front). the yfz is a good bike but has an extremely stiff throttle. i have not ridden an ltr. one thing i do like about mine over the rest is the reverse.

well coming off a honda i love my kfx, the ltr for me just wasnt right for my trail ridin and i never wanted a yami although i have ridden one (i just dont like the "playskool" feel of it if that makes sense) and ive heard people say the yfz and kfx basically look and feel the same but i dont see it, but i do think the kfx is the most capable of the 450s it can be a trail monster when you want or a racer if you want.

I love the kawi, just wish I could get the seat height down a bit.
Added an HMF slip-on over the weekend and opened up the air box, didn't remap. Power is great, lots of torque. Starts and restarts WAY better than the 450ER I had, plus restarts in ANY gear. I think as far as feel goes its in between the 450R and the YFZ. I added the quadtech hump seat to mine and it helped the comfort a lot. Also have the GT Thunder revlaves front and rear, GT Thunder linkage, Hipers, Maxxis tires, Powermadds, Spider grips, Elka system 3 dampner, PRM swingarm skid, Yuasa YTZ-7S battery.

My brother has one he just put a hmf slip on pipe w/ the programmer thing. Really good throttle response but my 05 yfz still will out accellerate it with simular mods. He has had some problems with some kind of tip over sinsors that will shut it off for no reason?? Its fixed now. From what I can tell the KFX really lacks bottom end. It stalls out so easy. Maybe a heavier flywheel would help?? It turns very quickly compared to my yfz, which makes it fast in the tight woods. I think it needs a softer seat, longer stem, relocate the foot pegs back and down a inch, and some revalved or aftermarket shocks and it would be a great wood racer. Though the stock shocks work well for the average/aggressive trail ridder.

Hondas here in Missouri still dominate the Hairscrammbles series due mostly because I think they're better in the tighter stuff, which we have.
