if you notice the porcelain area is a taner color and the black is mainly from my accelerator pump, i guess i could go out and try leaning it up another 1/4 turn. I'm running an Edelbrock quick silver so i have a decent amount of adjustments to make before ill have to switch needles.

you would have to do a plug chop to really test it.

how can a plug be white but not lean =good preformance? i had it white with a dark discolor on the threads but the engine was running to lean piniging through my exhaust, but then yet they also say white is good witch is it?

looks a tad rich to me. But not by a whole lot. Better to be a bit rich than lean though.

in your second set of pics, id say your pretty close...i would probably leave it there rather then chance running lean...however...whats it feal like... good performance?

Also post pics after you hack up that 2nd plug in the pics...and we can tell you better.

thanks guys for all your help, now i havent done this before but when you cut your threads off so that you only see the insulator what will that tell me?

It shows the "mixture ring" at the bottom of the insulator which is the part of the plug you should be looking at to evaluate a/f ratios. This doesn't work on an old plug. The plug must be new with the only run time being the time it takes to do the test.

You don't always have to actually "chop" the threads off. Sometimes a flashlight and magnifying glass are enough. But in other cases cutting the plug is the only way to really get a good look at what you need to see.

to change the plug on te 400, what do you do, just unbolt the front fenders and gas tank,

what?! why would you unbolt the gask tank or fenders? just pull the plug wire off it and take it out!

as mentioned the second set looks best. is that based on all around running, low speed or WOT?

2nd set all around running
