I just bought me a '99 400ex and the stock plastic is pretty faded. I want to put some Maier black fenders on it but the guy at my local honda shop is telling me its a bad idea. I was curious who all here has used the maier fenders and if you know what kind of custom work you have to do to get them to fit. Thanks!

i have white maiers and they have held up for 3 years on my 2000 400ex...they bolt right on...no problems at all...

if you ride a bit then stay away from black. it fades real fast and looks horrible when scratched.:chinese:

So you guys think white and silver would be a better choice? The last place i rode it was on top of a giant saw dust pile lol, if that tells you anything about my riding. :D

That silver looks pretty sweet gcart2! What would you guys think about white front and rear and silver on the op of the seat, gas tank cover and steering wheel cover? Ive also got some tribal flame and gen-1 honda decals to put on it that are dark gray.

i have them in silver. i love them front are a little bit of trouble you have to drill holes etc but not to bad. also you have to get maier side panels if not its a pain to try and get the stock ones to work. leaves a huge gap.

I gotcha, I was planning on buying the package that has fender extensions so I wont have to worry about the side panels. Can you go into any more detail about the custom drilling? I knew i was going to have to but i wasn't sure where or to what extent.

you drill 8 holes. 2 are on the top towards the front... there is an "L" bracket supplied by maier. one side bolts to the plastic and the other to the stock mount that is near the upper shock mount. the other 6(3 per side) are to put on the lower part of the fenders, i'll take some pics tonight

You only have to drill holes on full fenders?

Also you don't have to get new side panels... Some come with side panels built on already.

Are you getting race-cut or full?

08-22-2007, 02:09 PM
no, unless the race cuts mount a different way, there are a few that you would still have to drill...they aren't hard to drill out at all...and i was wrong, there are 4 more than what i thought...see pics below

I really appreciate all your help guys! I'm pretty confident that I can put those fenders on with no problems. I'm planning on getting the full fenders just because of personal preference, but the race cuts look pretty awesome too. There's only one bummer though... my local honda dealer cant order white for my '99 because he says they dont make white for the '99! BS if you ask me but I guess I cant do much about it. what you guys think?

I figured it was a bunch of crap... the friggin website says I can get them for a '99! But... I think i'm gonna start shopping somewhere thats not a straight Honda dealer. They all seem to jack up their prices too much anyway. I know of Dennis Kirk and Rocky Mountain ATV, but are there any other good sites I can find plastic on?

I know your dealer doesnt know what he is talking about. You can pick up multiple colors for the 99. Check out this link

I have Black and yes they are a bit to keep up but they look good.

Race cuts I didn't have to drill any... Also don't have add-ons for race cut so that could be one reason why:p

Try RMATV, Motosport, Or C&D Racing. All great.. I ordered from one of them, but honestly can't remember who.

i also think the whole one piece fender(the one with the side panels already on) mount differently than mine and don't require drilling...of course they announced that style shortly after i bought my fenders...here are some pics

That white looks awesome speedyquad! I think thats what I'm gonna go with just because they'll blend a little with all the eminent scratches and scuffs. The black looks pretty awesome too but i think white is a little more my style. It might end up being a little longer than I expected because that same honda dealer told me two different prices the two times i went in. And yes... the second one was like twice as much! I guess he thought i was only talking about the front fender after I said "both fenders" like 3 times...

All I need to do now is find them for a good price.

thanks
i got my fronts off of ebay...they were new, never installed and came to $84 with shipping...the rears came from chaparral and came to $141 with shipping...they were a little more expensive than some others, but they were also the only ones that had them in stock...everybody else was telling a up to 3 months to get them to me...
