I went to go ride my quad the other day for the first time, and whenever I put it into 1st gear it would stall right away like If i wasnt even pulling in the clutch. I took off the clutch cover and everything seem's to be working fine but only the 2 outer clutch plates move. I had to pull the whole clutch setup off when i did the DRD wet sump, but I put everything on the way I took it off...the only thing I could think of that would maybe affect the clutch not working at all would be I torqued down the Nut for the basket a little too tight...What do you think it could be.....When you pull in the clutch, it feels like its working but it doesnt.

Over tighting the nut should`nt be a problem...
I`am thinking the steel and fiber plates or sticking.
Were they oiled when you reinstilled them?
You did`nt clean them did ya?

I too have had this problem but after it happened for the winter and all that I did was adjust the cable and it was fine, speaking of that do you find that a stock yz426 cable seems to be to long and leave little room for adjustment.

well i have alot of adjustment at the lever too

Is the Inside clutch basket supposed to spin freely?? or no....With my 250R, the inner basket soun freely when the Nut was torqued down...after i did the YZ426 one, it doesnt spin at all, only when you kick the quad and the outer basket spins.

Like ss440ex said, it sounds like your fiber and metal plates are sticking.

Ive had that happen in a couple engines before. Pull in the clutch and it feels right, but it clunks out as soon as you shift it. Pull the plates back out again and clean them Very good. Make sure every plate is clean of gunk and any tacky build up. Also make sure your metal plates arent scared at all. Get everything back in and oiled and you should be good.

Thank you
Justin
