What quad handles better in its stock form? My friend says a 250r handles better then a 400EX and I think the 400EX handles better then the 250r, if not the same. What do you guys all think?

Thanks,

norm u just don't know how to rider period haha.

anyways i always heard that the 400ex handled better then the 250r even though they use some of the same frame geometry. i dunno if this it true i only ever rode 1 250r and it wasn't stock up front so i dunno stock.

the 250r handles better cause the suspensions stiffer and rolls less in corners

I've never had a problem with my 400 rolling in corners. I have heard that the 400 is a less fatiging frame, even with a 250r engine, so in the long run, it is faster.

Thanks for the reply's so far. I would like ot know of any differences in the frame, suspension, and A-Arms. Many say that the 400EX frame is an update fo the 250R so that is why it leads me to believe that the 400 is better.

The 400ex just has revised geometry. A stock 250r handles better becuase it is lighter. I think the 400ex has more rake in the front (dont hold me to that, I am just guessing what honda did).

The 400ex frame has a higher center of gravity because the frame is taller to accomedate the larger 400cc engine. Also, the 250r is longer than the 400ex is stock form. I am not sure but I think the 400 is a tad wider too.

in my opinion the 250r handles way better, in stock form the 400ex has alot of roll in the hard corners, you just get used to it,on a 250r, there lighter, sit lower, and dont roll in the corners too bad stock, also the shocks are better than the 400exs, at least mine are

The 250r just has a 1.25" longer swingarm. Like I said, I never noticed body roll on my 400ex, but then again I have never riden a 250r. Interesting that Honda would go backwards in shock technology. I find that hard to believe, but then again, I have never driven a 250r. I have driven a 250x, does that count? :D I think the key here is weight.

omg! I cant believe so many of you 400ex guys never ridden an R! I have about 10 friends with 400's and i'd never in my life give up my R for a 400, not flaming on ya guys! the 400 is taller therefore rolls in the corners, the R has stiffer shocks that are better for mx but the 400 is better for trails! The 400ex frame is a little stronger. and the lenght of an R depends on year model but basicaly the 250r is more of a racer, and the 400 is a trail and recreational quad! the R is much faster and i luv the 2-stroke powerband! when my motor was stock i whould beat my friends by about 6-10 quads lenghts in 100 yards depending on which friend and their riding skills! but i hate it when people comment on things they dont know like 400exracerX and ridered04! if you havent ridden an R why comment????? well anyway, why do 95% of pro's run 250r or banshee outlaw (250r geometry) chassis? whouldnt they run a 400 if it handles better???

Pretty soon all of you 250r guys will have to give up the r because of the (EDITED) EPA. It's a shame the some of the best quads in the bussiness and in the history of atving are going to have to be put up forever. The 2 strokes will always reign supreme but the 4 strokes will soon be the only thing you can ride.

Ok, first 1986trx250r, do not flame me, I said flat out I have never ridden a 250r. What is an aftermarket frame? BASED on the 250r. The 400ex is also revised 250r geometry, and is quite similar to the aftermarket frames. I simply said that based on what I have read, the 400ex has a less fatiguing frame to ride, even when it has a 250r engine. Read the articals about Adam Sick's 250r/yz426 in a 400ex frame. He used to have a 250r frame, and went to the 400ex, and said that it was smoother and easier to ride. That is strait from the camel's mouth. I dont appreciate being flamed for something like this. Of course you are going to beat a 400ex in a drag race! Please tell me what the title of this thread is, because I didnt think it was about which frame was better for drag racing. The 400ex is relitively new, and the pros didnt start using aftermarket 250r frames (except for the really big guys) untill the supplies of stock ones ran out. That was years after it went out of production. Dont talk unless you have some solid info to back it up.

i'm not understanding what trx400exguy is saying..the epa can't make us give up our quads..they are banning making of 2 strokes not taking them away..anyways competition models can still be made in 2 strokes...and i also belive all of you that have never riden a 250r should coment on how the 400's better..there the same frame except the 400ex's is tube frame that flexs more..and i don't care what any pro or shop owners say

sorry ridered04, but i got the article and i though it was cuz the R frames were getting old and expensive and 400ex stuff is much cheaper now? but anyway the epa isnt taking away my R, The only thing they are doing is making production 2-strokes from 2006 on have NO light, more than 10 inches or so of travel, and must be 50cc's or more! So I believe this might be something kinda good!!! and i dont believe this will have much effect on 125 & 250 dirt bikes. but say good bye to the lt80, 2-stroke dirt bike 50's and some 80's. Companies might finialy make a 2-stroke racer for all us R lovers! If not i'll probably be getting a C-dale in a couple years.
