Kind of a newbie to the ATV world. I have a 03 Honda TRX250EX runs great but I noticed when checking the oil kind of a gassy smell so I changed oil in the bike a couple months later I notice the same smell back again. Is this normal or something I should worry about?

The bike does do some sitting for 3 or 4 weeks at a time. I dont get to ride nearly as much riding as I would like to anymore.

Thanks

No I did not notice any milky texture or film. It was just the odder that made me suspicious.

i believe gas and oil are non soluable so you would see it

Remember to turn your gas off when transporting and after you get through riding. You're probably getting gas fumes making their way down when it sits for a while. When transporting the needle can wiggle around and let fumes and a little raw gas down the intake and past the rings, leaving a gassy smell.

I agree. Change the oil so it's fresh and make sure to turn the gas off before you let it sit for long periods. I'll bet this will fix it.

They are both pretroleum products. They will mix perfectly. It is water and oil that don't mix well, and that's where the white sludge comes in.

You could also run a plug chop. It is possible that you are running a bit rich and washing the cylinder walls, causing fuel to mix with the oil. But odds are, as the others said, it's just fuel overflow while transporting.
