I got my 01' Raptor rear shock mounted up a few days ago. I put the 400ex spring on it since I weigh 150. I havent gotten any ride time on it yet due to a broken shock mount on my right lower a-arm. It feels alot better then the stock 300ex rear shock. Alot more dampning. Heres some pics

I thought if you were under 200lbs you didn't need to get the 400ex spring? Please verify Jeff or someone that knows.

Thanx guys, I bought the shock from a guy at ATV connection for 185 shipped. I got the spring from Warriorman. lol. If you weigh under 200lbs then you need to put the 400ex spring on it, otherwise it will feel really stiff. If your over 200lbs then just use the raptor spring.

On your a-arms and shocks, did you have to make a shock mount? Or will a 250r shock mount fine on a 400 arm? Got pics?

my point..........exriders is your life

exriders isnt my life, its a part of my life i guess, maybe you should get a life

Mr. Honda, I didnt have to relocate the shock mount. I have 400ex a-arms and works 250R double rate front shocks. The 250R shocks are shorter then 400ex shocks so they fit w/ out having to relocate the shock mount... pics-

Hey live2ride300 did the 250r shocks on the 400 arms change the ride height, or did it stay the same? In other words, are they exactly the right length?

Thanks, That is what I wanted to know. I was going to put my 400 arms on my 300. And I did want to make new mounts. Thanks man.:D

frozen- the ride height stayed about the same, but you can adjust it by adjusting the preload.

I have a question about the rezzie on my raptor shock, I was looking at it today, and the end of the can has a little gouge in it, im guessing its from my chain hitting it, I havent really done any big jumping on it yet, but I was hitting the whoops pretty hard with it, maybe thats when it happened? Check out the pic, and tell me what you think, should I try to relocate it? Has anyone else with raptor shocks on their 300s ever have this problem? Thanx for any help,

Chuck

Well from the looks of it the chain is the only thing it could be. You should be able to find a better spot.

250R shocks wont work, you will need to relocate the top shock mounts. The shocks I got arent 250R shocks, the guy I bought them from said they were, but they werent, im pretty sure they are 300ex shocks. Sorry for the confusion. Get a pair of works double rates for a 300ex and have them valved for your 400ex a-arms, that would work great. Yes the 400ex a-arms will bolt right up to your 400ex.

Glad to see im not alone, I ended up putting some duct tape where the gouge is, I put a big thick layer of it about an 1/8 inch thick im guessing until I relocate it. I tried a few different spots but ended up putting it back where it was cuz it was getting late and I had to get up early the next morning for a ride.

think thats bad?! look what the chain did to my works rezzie line currently getting fixed by the quadshop

i was going to use my uncles raptor shock for a temp but since i drilled out my bushing on the works and the holes in the mounts on the back of the quad so i could make the shock fit tighter i cant use the rappy shock... it doesnt have a full opening like the works shock and the little ball in the middle where the bolt goes through in the rappy shock cant be made bigger... oh well

Damn that sux, I looked over my whole line and where its touchin metal or where it might wear at the line, i put duct tape around it to protect it.

Get some like hard plastic stuff that will go over the line to protect it.

I am confused. The shocks you have are really 300ex shocks and not 250r shock.I believe the R shocks and 400ex shocks are the same lenght. So they are 300 shock right.

That looks like a nice setup.I think I might have to do that!I have read about it.Never really considered it.I got to buy a 250x first hehe.

Ya, the person I bought my shocks from said they were 250R shocks, so my neighbor made me up a bracket to mount the shocks, but we ended up not even needing it, the shocks fit fine the way they were. They are 300 works shocks. I think I confused alot of people about this, sorry!

dont u think that if they were true 300ex shocks they would lower the quad?? thats weird theres no tellin what u got...maybe just blown 250r shocks missing a 3rd spring causing them to be a little short...do they have lots of sag?

Ya thats what I was thikning also. I have no idea, I tried asking the guy afterwards but he still said they are 250R shocks. I dont trust him anyways, he sent me 400ex pegs and they were 300ex pegs, he said he had those pegs on his 400, im like no way thats possible, lol. I had the shocks rebuilt and has ssd added, I had them valved for a 170lb rider and 400ex a-arms. I got them back and there really soft, so im getting stiffer springs for them.
