what jetting should i run with the carb and whats recommended for this install?? i wont have it until next week i am sure but want to haev a plan for install and riding it

Maybe somewhere around a 185 main and a 50 or 52 pilot. That oughta get it running so you can fine tune it.;)

not to take from this thread at all, but i too was thinking about doing this.

i have an 04 440ex, stage 3 hotcam, and k/n. i removed the choke on my stock 400 carb and maaaybe noticed a little increase in throttle response.
questions -
would the 450r carb still be worth 100-150 bucks?
i have a jet kit (dyno), for my 400 carb, will this work in the 450 carb?
what would be a good starting point on jetting?
400ex cable work ok?
can i just get rid of the hotstart?
IIRC, the 05/06 carbs are better right?or is it o6/07?
could i remove the choke all together? i ride everything from sealevel @ 110 degrees to 7000 feet @ 20 degrees.
sorry for so many questions,
thanks!

hey i just noticed we have the same engine mods, besides the pipe and a dff. filter:p

right on man, how do you like it? i love mine. i'm thinking about going with the uni filter actually, worth it?

i love mine also, uni filter works great. i can't wait to put on the hmf and release all this power!

I'm curious how much the 450r carb is worth as well. Got a '01 440EX, racing cam (don't know which one, bought it this way) and a White Brother's E Series pipe with like 10 or 12 discs on it. I like the low end grunt and it pulls good in the midrange. Would the 450r carb give a little bit more up top? I still have the stock header, thinking that might be able to be replaced if I did the carb as well.

i am running a 175 main and a 42 pilot on mine so i don't think you will need much bigger unless the exstra comp makes that big of a dif

dang j450r king. I dont see how yours even idles with a 42 pilot. Mine wouldnt even do right with the stock 48 and im still on stock bore and piston.:huh
The main sounds about right tho.

oh sorry it's the stock 48 pilot. i had a blond moment there lol

talk about hijacking my thread!

I guess ill work with what i get. not sure what jets are in it yet. i will be doing a bunch of things at once while its ripped apart. need new air filter, plug, oil, adjust valves and hopefully a powerbomb header

sorry didn't mean to

apparently this is at stock jetting. it has a 113 in it. definitely not going to work. what should i run if i am near sea leavel??

j450rking
08-26-2007, 08:22 AM
i would start with the stock pilot and a 180 main and see what you get and go from there

prnstr4life
08-26-2007, 11:16 AM
i was thinking the same. i have a 12:1 psiton and stge 2 cam, with slip on. i have read people using 200+

i am gonan get them from jetsrus.com and figured i should get 180-185 for temp change. i have my dynojet kit but doubt i could use any from there anyway

j450rking
08-26-2007, 02:32 PM
i would get more then just 2 jets. i would get jets from 175 to 185 and you should be pretty good

prnstr4life
08-26-2007, 07:52 PM
i am gonna order some. actually i might call the parts store and see how much they want. probably $20 a piece

prnstr4life
09-01-2007, 03:18 PM
i got 175, 178, 182, 185 i ordered 180 but they sent a 160. i need to email them and see what they say

prnstr4life
09-03-2007, 10:58 AM
i put a 178 in and got it installed...2 turns out on a/f screw. fired right up but idled very high so i adjusted the idle andit was still high but not as bad then it bogged out and wouldnt restart. my battery is ****ting out anyway so that dont help. when i would snap it it bogged a bit..

any suggestions??

i left the hotstart, didnt modify the choke, virtually took me an hour with cleaning up the carb. didnt touch the needle but believe the carb was totally stock due to main jet that was in it.

Gotta make sure you don't have ANY leaks at the carb/intake boot.

Other then that, you sound lean on idle circuit.

prnstr4life
09-03-2007, 06:13 PM
no leak...its tight as hell. i didnt have to grind it out at all. i need to grind out my intake tube from the fiilter to the carb but its on good enough to get it dialed in.

think its lean??

prnstr4life
09-05-2007, 08:09 PM
i am gonna work on it in the morning.. i am suppused to go riding tomorrow night so i want to get it up and running. if i get it rich and run it and see how it feels i can lean it out from there.

any other suggestions??

prnstr4life
09-06-2007, 06:51 PM
i have a 185 in it, fuel screw like 2.5 out and its still lean, idling way too high. i never touched the needle but is the stock needle adjustable?

help me out!

j450rking
09-06-2007, 07:55 PM
yes the stock needle is adjustable.

and with the idle have you tryed changing the idle with the idle adjustment knob on the left side of the carb.

prnstr4life
09-06-2007, 08:28 PM
of course...its backed all the way off. i will have to adjust the needle and up the jet i assume

j450rking

i would do one thing at a time i find it makes things go faster in the end;)

i called the local shop for keihin jets and they said i need to bring one in to match it up. didnt seem to make sense. i have the feeling i am going to have to go up to a 200ish but dont want to buy 10 more jets to dial this in.

j450rking
09-07-2007, 06:22 PM
hold on why would you have to go to a 200! unless you have some way that you are getting alot of air i don't see why you would need a 200 with that setup.

oh and hear is a jet sizeing chart

I'd say play around with your pilot jet. I got a good feeling that a 50 of 52 will fix that crazy idle b/c mine did the same thing on the stock 48, even with it turned like 3 to 3 1/2 turns out.
Get your idle right then you can focus on mid throttle (needle) and WOT (main).

;)

i put the stock carb back in since i put a 210 in and it wasnt better. i am going to check the pilot and retry it.

going to get a 50 pilot now. then we will see whats up.

its around 75 degrees here and not too humid, kind of a heat wave for this time of the year.

i was thinking of a 50 pilot, needle 3/4 clip from top, 175 main.

wait a sec, is a 450 carb stock needle adjustable??

prnstr4life
09-27-2007, 03:13 PM
so heres the deal

i got a 52K pilot, didnt touch needle since the screws were ready to strip. 175K Main. it was idling nice til i go to hit the throttle and it just wants to stall out. too much fuel. so i put a 160K and changed the fuel screw to 2 turns i believe. still doing it. this carb was stock with stock jetting whe i got it so whatever the needle is at then thats stock.

any help?? i might be riding in a hour or 2 and need to fine tune this or stock carb goes back on.

hey...any help here???

the carb seems fine but it does not rev hard. i would assume needle. is the stock needle adjustable???

I'm running a 450R carb and it is the running better then it did with a 39MM FCR. I have very LITTLE of the hesitation that you have and it pulls and revs great.

I'm running a 170 main, 50 pilot and the needle on the 4th notch.

Could there be a problem with your carb or how you installed it?

Here is a link to my install with great pictures.
