Buy oil specifically for 4 stroke motors DO NOT PUT CAR OIL IN IT! I use a 10w - 40 synthetic motorcycle oil in my 400ex and I love it. Synthetic is the way to go.

In my MANY years of ATVing and message boards, I have YET to find anyone with PROOF of a mechanical failure due to running automotive oils in a 4 stroke ATV/ATC/Dirt bike.

I run regular Valvoline 10w40 in every ride in my signature. CVT, auto clutch, manual clutch, whatever. Never had 1 issue in over 5 years of use in 10 machines.

This is a very frequent topic, and you can spend days finding stuff from searches on this site alone. Never any proof of negative effects from auto oil in 4 stroke ATV's.

The key to any machine is GOOD MAINTENANCE! Frequent oil and filter changes, air filter cleaning, lube wearable parts, etc.

All this argument about 'friction modifiers' and stuff in wet, manual clutche ATV's, I have never understood. The clutch is made to be bathed in oil at all times. I've had my 400EX for over 5 years, running Valvoline 10w40 the whole time, and the motor and clutch have never been touched, still stock. Frequent oil and filter changes, no problems.

Run the auto oil, you'll be fine!

Argue if ya'll want, I want proof of your claims.
