I just bought a used set of +2 LSR A-arms, and the guy said the ball joints were all fine. But after receiving them and inspection, there seems to be about a 1.5 mm of play up and down in the ball joints. As far as i know ball joints should be tight every way with no play, just rotation. The heim joints also seem to be loose.

So my question is does anyone know of a cheaper replacement ball joint other than the lonestar ones which are 125, for 4, i guess they just don't sell 2? Are there any automotive ones that fit? Thanks for the help guys.

And btw i'm just asking before i talk to the guy so that i have all the facts.

Moog part number ES3045RL is a perfect fit, I've used them for years. If you go with an off brand they're pretty inexpensive too. They're the short tie rod ends for an 89-98 Geo Tracker. These fit better than the ones guys will tell you to use from the old Ford Courier pick-up or whatever they're from. The heim joints at the frame can be bought at any industrial supply store, they're 1/2" rod ends. About $8-10 each.

you are a damn life saver. I got a great deal on the arms, but i didn't want to have to fork over $125 for new ball joints alone.

And dumb question but do i use that moog part number at any automotive store, or is there a store you order from in particular? Thanks Rich.

I found these:
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntt=ES3045RL+&searchinresults=false&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&N=700+400381+4294845103+115&x=33&y=12

http://www.autozone.com/N,14600194//shopping/partTypeResultSet.htm

And does it matter if its a 4wd or 2wd?

And for the heim joints i found these:
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/6G191

does anyone know if they are left or right hand threaded?

IS there a cheaper place to find them?

You can use the Moog number at any parts store that carries Moog. Or you can go by the application that I gave you. You should be able to find a generic or off-brand version of the ball joints for about $15-17 each, Moog would be a little more. I've always used the off-brand, but some will come with grease fitting and some won't. No big deal to me though. I think 2wd and 4wd are the same. The price on the heims you've found is pretty good, but you might find them a little cheaper. You need right hand threads.

what size are those tie ends?

Yea i think i may just go with generic ball joints, because they are cheaper and i'lls ee how long they last. And unfortunately with school i don't get out much anymore...

And the Heims i couldn't find at an industrial supply store, but those work. I don't think i will find them much cheaper. But thanks for all the help Rich. Saving me alot of cash.

And 86 Quad R i don't know what size the ball joints are, I'm just going by what Rich said. I'm going home tonight to mock things up so that i can get the measurents for laz at GT to revalve the shocks, so i can measure the size of them for you then.

Taking off the front end and mocking up the new A-arms and stem took longer than i expected. I didn't get a chance to disassemble the A-arms and measure the ends. Just out of curiosity did you want the measurements for the LSR ball joints or the replacements?

Also does anyone know if the stock brake lines work with +2+1 A-arms. They seemed to be a little strained at ride height. Thanks,
Nick

ohhhh ok thanks. actually i'd like the measurements from both. i'm trying to come up with a stronger/different setup than i have now on my modded OEM a-arms using replaceable joints.

btw: you may need to go with the extended brake lines using +2's. you could get by using stock length on +1's.

Do these look like LSR A-arms?

The guy that i bought them from said they're LSR, but after looking on the LSR website, it looks like the bottom a-arms of LSR arms have delrin bushings and not heim joints. Thanks,
Nick

Those don't look like LSR arms to me. Atleast they don't look like the ones I have. Mine are the older style though, with the delron style bushings in the top and bottom, whereas most the new ones use heim joints at least on the top arm.

I agree. The top should have the heim joints, but the bottom ahould have the delrin bushings.
