i pulled my new plug today to check the color after jetting, its black around the ring, but the middle little lip thing is like a real light brown.

by riding my main jet feels close.. but im running a stock pilot and the 42 is in tomorrow so would the wrong pilot make it go like that?

I have always gone with a light coffee color. Not too light.

a little black around the ring is normal. what your looking for is the color on the insulator. which what color you have sounds good.

the pilot jet only controls the fueling from idle to 1/4 throttle. then the main jet starts taking over. so actually what your reading on the plug is your main jet.

yes it does pop and backfire on decel, but not on accel, and seems to get hot fast.

Sounds to me like you are a touch lean on your Main Jet. Go up to your next jet and recheck...continue until you get the desired color/throttle response.
