checking the oil

just got a 2003 400ex and going for the first ride. didnt come with a manual. would someone tell me the proper way to check the oil level before i go. thanks

1. start it up
2. let it idle for 5 minutes
3. shut it off and let it sit for about 2 minutes or so.
4. pull dipstick out and wipe off then put it back in (DO NOT SCREW IT IN) and read it.


also if you rev it up while it's running for the 5 minutes or before you shut it off you will get an inaccurate reading.

Pretty much it but I let it warm up completely and let it rest about 5 minutes or so.
