I am planning on finally replacing my stock 01 400ex tires. I was looking at the Holeshot MXR6 tires. What I am wondering is what is the best size to go with? I was thinking of going down two inches in height. So the rear stock is 20x10x9 and I was thinking to go with the MXR6 18x10x9, Front stock is 22x7x10 and was thinking the MXR6 20x6x10. What would it hurt if I loose the 2 inch of height from the stock tires? Also in a previous post someone said the front MXR6 tire were crap.

what type of riding are you doing? mxr6's are decent but quadcrosses are better:D

At the moment I mostly do alot of heavy trail riding but, also if I can get some new suspension considering starting out at the tracks? Who make Quadcrosses?

itp makes quad crosses. the mxr6's wear out really quick so they probably wont hold up in trails. from what ive seen quad crosses dont wear out as quick, but some ppl still say they do.

So what about going down the 2 inches in height? Will the affect the 400ex in a negative way? If so what?

The reason I want to go smaller is that I can not keep the front end down. For example coming out of a corner and nailing it the quad comes up before the tires break loose. When you are riding in trails that only have a few inches of clearance on each side, it gets annoying pretty quick.

move forward on the quad, dont "nail" it baisicly adjust your riding style.there is not a tire that will fix this for you.you cetainly dont want a smaller diameter tire for heavy trail riding

I can basically sit on the handlebars and it still comes up. I love nailing it out of a corner and I thought that was the whole point of riding. I just want to be able to come out of a corner nailing it and send a rooster tail behind me instead of a wheelie.

if a tire gets enough traction out of a corner it will wheelie expecially 400ex's if your just doing trail riding dont bother going to mx sizes

I might have figured out some of my issues. I have been trying to dial in the jetting for a little bit now and had a chance to tinker today. I threw the stock CDI back in (kinda nice to hear the rev limiter again) and started doing some plug chops with a new plug. I am up to a 170K main and still did not get the ring at the bottom of the porcelain. The 170 was the highest I had so. Anyways way more power. I can do brodies on the pavement now so I would think it should snap loose in the trails. With all the aside what would be the best tires for me for trailing and incase I start racing it.

DO NOT BUY HOLESHOTS! Razr hold up so much better and ride better. ATV MX racers that have tried holeshots willtell you that they hoped they would wear out faster so they can buy razrs because maxxis razrs are that much better

If you do heavy trail riding like you say, I would go with a 20x11x9 Razr ( 6ply ) or 20x11x9 Razr2 in the rear, and a 21 or 22x7x10 Razr2 in the front.

that is a load of crap...unless you are talking about the Razr's that you can only buy at Nationals (if you look in pics of pro's who race Razr's, the writing on the sidewall is ALL yellow, the ones the avg. Joe can buy have red wrighting with a yellow Z in raZr). the fronts push and the rear get zero traction in loose stuff. FoxHondaRider...go to a local mx race and take a look at the B-class, they are usually running what works b/c they don't have the big time sponsors yet. And I can bet it won't be Razrs. if you are going to get an 18in tire, get ITP sx for the rear and Kenda klaws for the front (or maxxis razr-cross)..I like a round profile tire in the front b/c they wont push as much in loose stuff.

you can buy the ones that are all yellow those are soft compund the "average joe" ones are hard compund... you can buy both and any good tire will wear fast, better traction=softer compound and softer compound=faster wear

I was told you can only get the race compound ones at nationals or WPSA's. where can you buy them at?

Okay guys how about these tire the Holeshot XCR.

# Ideal for today’s 4-stroke sport machines!
# 6-ply tough yet light in weight.
# Lower in profile, narrower and lighter than XC/XCT models.
# Special angled shoulder knob design provides increased side bite for faster, more controllable cornering.
# Bright hot patch logo on sidewall.
# Perfect for GNCC-type riding and racing conditions. Chad Duvall took these tires to the 2003 ATVA GNCC Pro Production class championship!

Thinking about 21x710 Front
And 20x11x9 Rear on stock rims
Any Input?

I've heard horrible things about the fronts. The only front tire I'll ever buy again is the Razr2. They're by far the best tire I've ever rode. In the rear its a tie between Razr2 and HD...both fit my riding conditions pretty well. I would like to pick up a set of rear GNCC's this winter to try out.

Razor 2 fronts and razor1 rear make a good combo. Also like kenda claws tires. From what I seen the GNCC dont hold up for very long.

dude just go with kenda klaws bakc and front, they hook up beter than my razers and last a long time like i street ride alot and they dont waste and kenda is a lil cheaper also , i personaly think kendahas the best trail tires and tires for people that dont race

Any reason why Razr 2 up front and Razr 1 rear. Also would it hurt anything to running 21x7x10 Front instead of the stock 22x7x10 and the 20x11x9 6 ply rear instead of the stock 20x10x9 on stock rims?

for some people the razr2's bite to much for their riding style. the standard 6 ply razrs will slide better and last pretty much the same amount of time. i think the razr2s are tougher even though both are 6 ply. the 21 inch fronts will pick up more bumps and such but in turns there will be less tire roll so it will corner better. i like running 22 inch razr2s personally for all around riding. and on the rear no it wont matter. the tires will just be an inch wider than stock tires. first number is the tire height. second number is tire width. third number is rim size.

have a nice day.

Yep, the reason I'm going to the GNCC's in the rear is because of too much side bite. If I dont like them, I'll probably get a set of 6ply Razr's
