well my brothers quad is finally getting a mild rebuild as it started smoking and taking oil. we decided that while the engine was apart we would paint his frame now since it would be convenient. first, everything single thing that could have been siezed on this thing was. the swing arm pivot bolt was impossible without an air chisel and i broke his brake hub trying to get it off the axle :grr: . anyway, its getting a stock bore wiseco top end kit and new carrier bearings along with everything being torn down and greased. enjoy. heres a picture of the quad as it sat before.

heres the bland frame with a bunch of rust spots starting. they were all sanded down and a silver metallic primer coat was put on.

yep, just waiting to get the honing tool, then i can get the head back together. rebuilding the top end is not nearly as hard as i thought at first.

Pipeless416

well i got the head all put back together. and thanks for the compliments everybody. the paint doesnt actually have a name on the can. its made by duplicolor and its a metalcast finish. its meant to be painted over chrome or polished aluminum, but i ended up spraying a layer of metallic silver and thats how it came out to an almost trans blue color. btw, we found the paint at autozone. the swingarm is done now too and it came out blindingly shiny.

actually its holding up great. much better than i expected. it only has like 1 chip in it because of a serious screw up with a wrench. if anybody is interested in this, do not be afraid. just make sure you dont get any gas from the overflow tube on it! i made a catch bottle that sits in my airbox.

I wanna see some completed pic's that thing looks tight. No joke. how man coats did you spray on... I remember when i sprayed the blasters head i did like 6 + 3 clears and it held up incredible.
I would also say spray it down with some mop n glow and make that baby shine... Also remember tire shine does wonders on every thing plastic. :D

Thanks again for finishing it mike, it looks awesome:cool: I was really nervous when we first tried starting it last night haha. My brother and I were actually sitting in Lake Michigan on vacation a couple weeks ago and he came up with the idea of a blue frame, I'm glad he did:p

now I just hope we can get that bearing out:grr:

Next on my list of things is either an FMF Q4 or Pro Circuit type 496 pipe. I just need to get some more money first:p

Nice 400ex Blaster, What did you do with your 250? I thought you still had it. I wouldnt get graphics but thats just me because they get beat up anyway, just find stickers that match to look something like this if you want. This is an idea.

have you rode it yet? hows the paint on the frame holding up. looks great btw

I've ridden just around the front yard, nothing more than 3/4 throttle, still breaking it in. Seems to run good though. So basically the frame hasn't had a real test yet (just wait;) ), but my brothers frame has lasted about 2 years now and the only thing he has had to touch up at all was the bottom a arms. Everything else is doing fine. We ride in some pretty nasty stuff too, a lot of gravel, big tree branches laying in the trail, basically everything.
